Ehh..
Well.. I got these speakers for my birthday.. Luckily I still have the receipt.

The sound quality is OK if you're sitting close by.Once you raise the volume everything sounds distorted.

My friend has the Logic3 I-Station iPod Dock and Speaker Station (also on amazon) and they sound a hell of a lot better than these.

Sucks really.. I got these because Altec is a good brand.Oh well..

Color Me Impressed
Let's start with- This is not what I expected.Seriously, I was expecting much less from this thing.I ordered this because I was tired of using my iTrip with my current radio in my room.I like to just leave my iTrip in my car, and the iTrip doesn't have the good quality I would like in my bedroom at home.

When I got this in, I looked at it thinking it would be small sound, small everything really.But I was pleasantly suprised.The sound is quite full for the size of the unit.Now it is no Bose Sounddock, so don't expect lots of bass...actually there is NO bass in this little thing - I tried some current r&b and rap tunes and kind of laughed.But I still appreciate the value of these speakers because of the tiny amount of space it takes up, the good quality sound, the ease of use, and the portability factor.The sound is room filling, but no more than that.Don't expect to hear this thing jamming from across the house, but I'm not worried about that. I live in an apartment with a roommate, so I don't mind the smaller sound, she doesn't either.

Get these if you can't shell out $300 for the Bose Sounddock...you won't be disappointed

Sacrifice sound quality for portability & trendiness...
OK, these are certainly better than those pathetic Bose iPod speakers that cost over twice as much---no surprise there, Bose is just one huge hype/marketing scam.

The question you need to ask yourself is, however, do you REALLY need this much compactness and portability?

Sure these speakers sound fine...if you are sitting within about 3 feet of them and have them at moderate volumes only, that is.

If you want more room-filling sound you're much better lugging around a pair of self-powered plug-in 2.0 or 2.1 computer speakers like the Klipsch ProMedia 2.0 or better yet find a boombox that has auxilary input plugs so you can plug your iPod into it (this may be hard to do since most boomboxes these days are so cheaply built).

Otherwise to be frank, you're better off investing in a nice pair of Sennheiser headphones.Itty-bitty flat speakers look cute but if you're serious about your music they just don't cut it.

Great Travel Pool Side Speakers!
Pretty incredible sound for something as small and light as a hardback book.I have traveled to NYC, Australia, & Mexico now with these amazing speakers and I cannot go anywhere out of town without them.You no longer have to bring all the other chargers with you, this will charge your ipod while it it plugged into your hotel wall at night.We have taken them to the beach, pool, boat, etc.They make a great converstation piece as well. Highly recommend them!

Perfect Office/Travel Stereo
I've had this for a total of one week, and I can't imagine life without it. Absolutely perfect for an office or other smaller enclosed spaces, although I used it outside this weekend for yardwork, and it wasn't half bad. Yes, the Bose SoundDock has a richer sound (I've compared the two side by side offline), but it wasn't worth spending more than double on that device. Plus, it (the Bose) isn't as portable - this version collapses just as advertised, about the size and weight of a hardcover book. I travel a bit, and I can't wait to take this on the road.

IFYOUNEEDPORTABLE
I wish I had gotten the larger system instead of the mini,but far from being dissapointed the sound quality is good.If you are traveling ,these are your choice.Small,easy to stow ,and you have sound.Take's battery's and come's with every converter for international travel.I like it.

For a compact travel system, the iMmini is hard to beat
I needed a compact travel speaker system for my iPod Mini. After looking at the options, the iMmini speaker system seemed to be the best choice. It is very small, sturdy and lightweight, which makes it a perfect choice for travelers. It also sounds pretty good for as small as it is. It does get a bit distorted at higher volumes, but tweaking the iPod Mini EQ settings can usually help in that area. It's not loud enough to fill a room with sound, but it works perfect when sitting at a table having drinks or sitting out on a beach, etc. I'm taking mine to Costa Rica with me (along with several fresh batteries), and it's not going to make much of a dent in my luggage space...and that is exactly why I picked the iMmini. It also looks pretty stylishwith the silver iPod Mini. It's not a perfect sound system (especially if you are looking to blast the tunes like a boombox), but it's definitely a great choice if size and portability are desired. It's also worth noting that the iMmini works well with the iPod as a travel alarm clock unit. It may not be for everyone, but it's working out really well for me.

AVERAGE
This system is certainly better than the JBL onstage docking speaker system, however it also has its drawbacks.

Pros:very compact, user friendly, portable.
Cons:eats batteries, lacks a remote, sound quality is average.

If you can afford the Bose ipod base speaker, you'll love it.It's worth the extra cash.Sound is incredible.Comes with a remote the size of a credit card.

I have all three...the Altec Lansing is better than JBL, not as good as the Bose.

My experience may be unique but
.... maybe because it's first generation;

(1)It's a complete battery hog in spite of A-L's claims for long life.AA's last a couple of hours at most.Get rechargeable batteries, but even then you may have problems
(2)9 volt power plug-in doesn't work.I Had to call A-L for a replacement
(3)I bought some rechargeable high-power NiMH batteries at the suggestion of A-L customer support.It' still not enough power.The unit auto shuts-off after 3 minutes.

(4)It's going back to A-L for replacement.They are giving me a full replacement.Hopefully, it will work better.

(5)Sound is very good...when it works

A-L support was great, but overall, I am not happy with this product.

good speakers for the price
Sound quality is very good for the size.

I have yet to test out the claim of 24 hours conitunous use on 4 AA battery.

one annoyance is that the base in the middle (between the two speaker) where u put your mp3 player/ipod do not have a no slippery surface. so you player will easily slipp off.

Very good speakers for your mp3 player!
Altec Lansing is known for providing good quality PC speakers for an affordable price. Now they have a hit on their hands in this portable speaker system for iPod or other mp3 player. The speakers are small, easy to carry, nice looking and most importantly sound very good.

Fantastic!
The speakers themselves measure about 3.5 inches tall and 2.5 inches wide each.

The whole unit only stands (when unfolded) about 5 inches tall. If your mp3 player doesn't fit between the speakers, you can set it on the platform behind the speakers, which is nice... which I guess would also accomodate a portable cd player, etc.

The thing i was most impressed by is the sound quality. This thing can get annoyingly loud indoors... which is good! With some bass heavy songs, you might need to back it off just a touch (see the opening 20 seconds of Daft Punk - Around the World, or Underworld - River of Bass), but for most music, you can crank it up!

Everything about these speakers is very impressive, and reeks of clever design ideas... except one flaw. This is why I only gave it 4 stars. Even with batteries installed (4xAA), the speaker doesn't remember your volume setting when you turn it off. The next time you turn it on, you have to turn the volume back up again.

Other than that I'm completely and totally impressed! I'm taking it on vacation with me, and I can't wait!

Great little speakers
Got these for my MP3 player, excellent sound for the money. Fold up into a nice tiny bundle. Simply requires a headphone jack, so it would work well with any PC or portable player.

Great speakers on a budget
I just recently became an avid online gaming fanatic and realized early on that the speakers that came with my computer just weren't cutting it. I didn't want to spend a ton of money to get great sound and in looking for options in the $50-$100 range I decided to purchase the VS2221 2.1 system from Altec Lansing. I opted for a 3-speaker system since having 5.1 isn't that important to me and was out of my price range.

What a difference in sound!Listening to the music from the cinematic for World of Warcraft is a whole new experience. All of a sudden you can hear layers of music that weren't there before!The in-game experience has also been enriched as the subwoofer delivers the booms and bangs and you don't need to have the subwoofer dialed all the way.I keep the SFX button on to have the wider range of sound. I also chose the VS2221 model because the 2 main speakers are slim and fit nicely next to my flat-panel monitor and even have a blue power light which matches the power lights on my computer. The subwoofer is a compact size and fits below my desk nicely.

My only true gripe is that the subwoofer control is on the subwoofer so if I need to make an adjustment I have to crawl under my desk.Not a totally big deal but I expected as much for the price I paid.What's also great is that the flat panel speakers are magnetically shielded so that you can place them safely next to your monitor.However, the subwoofer isn't and the company recommends that you place it at least 2 feet away from your computer and monitor.

Overall I would recommend these speakers to anyone looking for a higher quality of sound without making your wallet wince. ... Read more
