Awesome!!
These speakers were delivered less than a week after I ordered them. I am very impressed with the way they sound, the bass is awesome for listening to music and playing games, I hooked them up to my laptop with no problems at all, though you need to have a 1/8" (Standard mini-headphone size for all laptops, cd-players or mp3 players.) cord that goes from the aux., which is located on the subwoofer unit to the headphone plug-in on your laptop. These cables are plentiful at any Radio Shack, Best Buy, or Compusa. You can't beat them for the price, and they also come with a cool remote unit where you can control the volume, eq. settings, bass, and has 2 headphone plugs. Very Very Cool!!

Altec Lansing Rocks!
Before Altec Lansing PC speakers were available, people buying a computer would almost always get a pair of white unknown boxes that was packaged with their PCs labeled or marketed as "multi-media stereo speakers", which (I'm sure everyone would agree with me) sounds like a tin can with a chord.

Altec Lansing did everyone a favor by targeting the PC market and creating real multi-media speakers, I have been a big fan eversince. I probably have bought over 4 Altec Lansing speakers and this model the XA3021 is by far the best I've had. Nothing in the same price range can offer you crystal clear audio with a heavy thumping deep bass range. Whether you're listening to Jazz, Classical or Rock, playing explosive heart stopping games, or simply enjoying your favorite DVD movie, you will surely enjoy the experience and I bet at one point you'll smile and say.. "XA3021, I love you!"

The somewhat unexpected, retro design reminds you of microphones from the early days of radio, but at the same time, the green graphics gives you that high-tech feel that seems to scream "I'm from the future! now where is your leader!". The sub-woofer is menacing and looks like an atomic bomb waiting to explode at your command!

Now what are you gonna do ? I thought so, don't forget to get one for your Dad too!

Altec Lansing puts some thought into speakers for the masses
WHen you make a purchase, you normally expect a certain level of satisfaction, given your tastes and the price of the item. As for the former, I enjoy a good sounding speaker. I'm Not an audiophile- but when I'm in the sweet spot (and maybe a little off!) I like it to sound clear and vibrant. Something about it just brings a smile to my face. I walked into a Circuit City, gift card in hand. THe card is for $25, from my best friend and his fiancee. I had read about a pair of Altec-Lansing speakers on AOL Broadband Gear (KW:Broadband Gear - not case sensitive) and was going to order but the thought of gettting them even cheaper with my gift card was enough to prompt a "Goodbye" and a head to the store. I was on a mission. Good speakers. Nice purchase. I felt like a beverly hills teenager with daddy's AMEX. First, the Creature's distract me. JBL (I believe) Creatures. Neat edgy styling. The sound coming from speakers about the size of the dial on an Ipod is great. Almost a feat you'd expect from Bose. Silver will match my Dell gear and new Dell Flat Panel (Black and silver), I think. Speaking of Bose, what are these, I say as I approach what I soon learn are BOse computer speakers. A little plain, but stylish for a Bose speaker. The Bass! NO Subwoofer? How do they do it? They continue to innovate and impress me. THen I saw the price...over a hundred bucks for the Creatures and about the same for the Bose. I start doing the math...carry the 7...divide by the Least Common Denomin..plus... probably around 80 bux after the gift card inc tax. Luckily I see a salesman so duck around the corner to finish my brain fart. No..No..NO.. I must find the AL's. Circuit City online says they are in-stock. I should have reserved them online. I finally locate them, all by themselves on a top shelf with the help of a sales guy who seems green to the black and silver sonic stellars but curious nonetheless as he stares at them while I browse around. Either that or he thinks I'm goin to swipe them- I am wearing my baggier pants! Not that kind of person I head to the register and proudly display my card. For the twenty eight dollars I spent I couldnt be happier. Even if I had no discount, they would be worth every cent- and the 28 includes a pack of batteries, too (not for the speakers). Sure the others sounded good, but these look every bit as good - maybe even cooler- and the sound-- the real importance- surely holds its own. They might be a little crisper or clearer or whatever for 100 bucks but I'm happy with a great product that is evident of thought in design and saving money, too. The only thing I've seen that might even come close is a 60 dollar set of Logitech speakers. It'd be close and I havent heard them other than one time in a small store. The color scheme is especially great for Dell owners and X Box fans, too. As for the latter, the phrase more than you'd expect for less than you'd think takes center stage in my mind. Pleasing to the senses- and the cent-ses- they have my recommendation. And they'll have yours too. NOw to find those audio clips in the cd section, I have my wired remote in hand. Happy Shopping!

Awesome Speakers, even more awesome price
I purchased these speakers for $40, and they are worth every penny. I hooked them up to my philips dvd726 (dvd player). I have mono sound on my TV and wanted speakers so I could utilize the mp3 playback feature on my dvd player, as well as stereo sound with my dvds, vcds,svcds. I hooked these up in 15 minutes. The only con is the wired remote, I'd much rather have a regular remote, but luckily this is in my bedroom so it doesnt really matter. The sound will blow you away. You can adjust the bass (on the sub), and pick the sound mode on the remote. I didn't really need 5.1 surround sound...2.1 is great for me. My movies sound so different, I never knew I was missing so much with a mono TV, but I really was.

I really really like the headphone hook-ups in the remote for private listening. There are two so that you and a friend can enjoy this feature. The sound is rich and full, and believe me I'm picky too. I have Boston Acoustic Speakers with a subwoofer hooked up to my PC, so I'm used to decent audio speakers. The style of these is funky, which I like! They look like old radios and the sub is sort of like a rocket. This may not appeal to the older set--but I'm a college student and I think most kids and young people will find the design pretty nifty. Plus the silver/black theme matches my other electronics.

*One thing that may bother people is there is a very faint static noise when the speakers aren't in use, but on and turned up to a certain volume. This seems insignificant to me because I only have them turned on when they are being used.

Buy these speakers and you won't be let down. They simply rock. For a small price you get big sound. I was skeptical, but it's true.

Very pleased
I bought these a few months back to amplify sound on my TV. I hooked them up to a switcher and use them with my cable, DVD player, Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube. They sound really really good. I like them a lot and am not disappointed in the slightest. Apparently, the volume can go louder than I think, because my roommate can sometimes tell what I'm watching all the way from the living room. I'm very glad that there is a bass volume on the subwoofer so that I can adjust the strength (I like some bass, but not a lot).

One little gripe. These speakers have 3 sound schemes: TV, gaming, and max bass. I find little difference between the TV and gaming settings, and would expect a bit more bass from the gaming setting. Max bass is really good for watching movies or listening to music TV channels or for playing an audio CD through your gaming console. These speakers have surprisingly good sound quality.

The little wired remote is a great plus. Some people would prefer a wireless remote, but I don't care either way. With a wired remote, I don't have to worry about losing it or buying batteries. I stuck a hook in the wall and stuck it up there so it's just within hand's reach. I couldn't do that with a wireless! Also, in my room I have one of those light switches that turns the electrical outlet on and off. I plugged the speakers into that outlet, so I just flip a switch to turn them off when I leave the room.

To summarize, this was a good investment. Great quality for the affordable price. I can only imagince how nice the 4.1 set would sound. If you can afford those ones, get 'em! If you want a good surround sound, bass effect for watching movies, get the 4.1 set. The 2.1 don't have quite enough oomph for a really immersive movie experience. But you will be more than happy with the 2.1 set for just casual gaming and movie watching. ... Read more

Another good Altec Lansing speaker-set
This is a standard 2-sattelite + subwoofer set, but the speakers themselves have a very good sound range and can pump out great bass. The subwoofer, as usual with Altec Lansing, is top-notch, with a great internal wooden cabinet that provides very realistic tones and sounds. While these speakers aren't Dolby Digital or THX certified, they still deliver top-notch sound and are worth a long look if you want a 3-piece speaker set. A Lot of sound for a little money
I have had these speakers for about 4 years, I have went throught 3 motherboards, 3 hard drives, 2 processors, and two power supplies and only one set of speakers, Altec Lansing ACS45.2. These speakers are quilty made with a quilty sound. The subwoofer kicks, it has knock pitchers off the wall and the sound is very tight. These speakers may only be 2.1 but they out perform many high dollar speaker systems. If sound quilty is important to you and you don't have to have 5.1 or 4.1 speakers these speakers are what you have been looking for.

Great sound
These speakers sound excellent. They don't look like much but the sound speaks for itself. Enjoyed for a year until the speakers bunked out on me, otherwise it would have gotten ***** instead of ****.

Altec Lansing AC45.2
This set of speakers are the greatest for the price. They deliver high quality sound and the woofer hits very hard. For [price] you couldnt find a better set of speakers. I have knocked pictures off of the wall downstairs with the volume maxed out. I took this set and wired them into my TV and use them as surround sound. If you are thinking about buying them, go on its a good buy.

Amazing........These are the best Value-for-money-speakers
I got this set of Speakers with my new system, opting for the "Cheaper" compared to the "Cambridge system". But believe you me. Compared to a similar product by creative, this is worth its weight in gold.

Clear rich bass, with distinct treble and higher tones. Great for games, mp3's, or even a small gathering that wants to rock to some music. The output is good. The two cubes are 6+6=12 watts. The sub-woofer is a great 20 watts with a 6.5 inch long throw woofer. If you dont want to go for the more expensive and bigger 5-piece systems, this is the best 3-piece alternative.

On the downside though...there is no treble control, and the subwoofer bass control is on the back of the woofer. So as in my case, if it is tucked in the corner somewhere, then it can be rather cumbersome to turn it up and down. However, I've found that setting it at medium works, cause with my SB!live card, i control the bass and treble from the taskbar "Play control" properties by going into the advanced properties.

Use it with a good card (SB!live..my suggestion) and it will be your best friend....YOur music system will have to file for redundancy.

I've had the chance to experiment with different speaker systems and I have to admit, Altec Lansing blows all other speaker systems away. Whether you're a hardcore gamer or a pure music lover, this system is sure to knock you down. This system is recommended for pure music listening pleasure. It comes with a very powerful subwoofer and a set of four finely designed, sleek looking flat panel speakers. Not only is the design appealing, the surround sound that these speakers produce is absolutely thrilling.

If you have a DVD player on your system, these speakers are your best bet. I have set them up in my room so I have all four speakers in the four corners of my room and the subwoofer right next to my PC, in the middle of the room.
