4-0 out of 5 stars Aiwa AJ 700 System
I purchased this unit after my old system I'd had since 1993 died on me... I shopped locally and online and came across the Aiwa AJ 300, as nice as that one seemed the AJ-700 clearly came across as a better system. The unit has a clock feature which is nice little extra but it even has timed programming options... as well as "timer playback" (alarm) capabilities. Granted not the main reason anyone buys a system but a nice touch none the less.

The sound quality is excellent on this unit, it doesn't matter if your listening to AM/FM radio, tape or CD the sound quality is remarkable. Instead of low, medium and loud sound settings you have various grades in between which bring subtle changes overall. The CD player takes a little getting used to, think of it as a triangle in terms of when you put your discs in. Taking them out requires a bit of care at first so you don't bang them against the machine itself.

The unit can be operated by remote or by a nifty little front pannel which folds up during the time's powered off. The front pannel has a skip track feature which is nice, just rotate it one time and it goes to the next track. Reminescent of some DVD players out there, the unit also has a blank skip feature that takes cd's to the next track. So if your tired of hearing blank spots between tracks this takes care of that. The materials on the box and owners manual talk about the unit capable of playing CD/R's, I'll have to try that out when I get my disc's back. If it works as well as it does with Analaog and Digital CD's it should be great.

The remote itself won't win any awards for ergonomics but it is laid out amongst the familiar lines we've seen before. It gets the job done though. Takes two AA batteries which are of course not provided, so better stock up if you buy this one.

All in all the unit is one I like, I wish I didn't have to go into work so I could have more time to play with it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars TIGHT
I am a teenager, and you know how teens like thier music. I just got the system and i am already falling in love with it. It has a whole @#$! load of bass and is very clear. I highly sugest it. 3 thumbs up. LOL

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This is an Awesome system to own. What attracted me to this item was that is was compact and consisted of all the features I was looking for like the 5 cd changer, high wattage, woofer and surround speakers and the digital feature. The price was within reason and you will get plenty of listening pleasure. The bass and the sound are excellent. I highly recommend this product. You won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning
Real audiophiles will likely laugh at me for saying this, but I have never had a really good stereo before and I wanted to treat myself (of course, if I had waited 10 days I would have gotten it at the new lower price). This system is a dream. It is easy and fun to use and it sounds GREAT!! I had the whole house vibrating when the volume was only set halfway to max. I really thought it was a great buy and now that the price is lower it should be harder to resist. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good CD player-but it doesn't play burned cds all the time.
This is a good CD player, but when you turn on the E.A.S.S. (skip protection), it won't play alot of cd's that are burned. And even when it sometimes does play a burned cd with the EASS on, it will sometimes shut itself off. I know a kid at school with the same player, and his doesn't always work properly with the EASS on while playing a burned CD. Other than that, it is a nice player with good sound quality. I really like the light-up display and the lighted battery low indicator, though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Aiwa is Amazing and Afordable
This is one of the best out! Since sony and aiwa is 1 and the same, you know you get great quality. It sounds great although the headphones are flimsy and lack bass a tad. It's E.A.S.S Plus 40 second electronic antishock system is excellant.Very easy to read LED display which shows a battery symbol of how much juice is left instead of a beep or flashy battery icon.DSL or Dynamic Super Linear Bass feels in the bass in 2 steps. With natural deep bass and NO distortions,it came in handy when i play bassheavy rap and dance tracks. The buttons are well laid out too. This cd player plays cdrs, enhanced cd,and even played my mp3cd's when converted to wav format and stored on a cdr with no skipping at all!I bumped it,hit it,slamed my fist(i'm heavy handed) on it,and it NEVER skipped!!!At this price buy 2 and a extra set of headphones if you prefer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased with this player.
I bought the XP-V70 a few weeks ago and love it. I have not had ANY problems with it skipping, and that means even when I have it in the car or turn it completely upside down. The one I bought came with A/C adapter and car kit. The sound when using the car kit is not that great, but it's passable. The headphones are comfortable and have very good sound. The design of the player is compact and sleek. I have really enjoyed owning it. Plus, I **love** that this thing has a built in battery charger. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works fine for me
This player has worked through workouts and trips and continues to play just fine.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a good product
Well it's a good thing that I had a gift certificate for this item and thus didn't have to pay too much money. The headphones broke (one ear piece stopped working) fairly soon after I got it, which is typical with Aiwa and Sony. Finally, it no longer plays tapes but just the radio. Hmm I think I've had it for a year and a half??

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
I am very pleased with this unit. I have tried 3 other casettes players for running and have found that they all skip. This one has worked without skipping whether running, walking, holding the player, or having it hooked to my waist. The headphones could be a bit more comfortable and the sound isn't perfect, but for me and my 2-3 mile runs, it is a keeper!

1-0 out of 5 stars Cumbersome arm strap...poor reception!
Looks pretty, doesn't work well! The strap isn't something you can put on & take off quickly. If I'm moving from one machine to another I don't want to mess around with straps and lose valuable workout time! Reception was poor one day, okay the next? This item could be reworked into something compact and useful instead of cumbersome. I am returning to exchange for the KOSS version. We'll see if that's better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally....A place to put it.
I've really enjoyed this personal headphone stereo/cassette player. Although it is about the same size as other cassette players, it is definitely more convienent. It has a strap that won't allow the radio to fall off when you're working out & a special lock so the cassette is unable to jump around.

You can attach the strap to the bars of treadmills, stairclimbers, your arms, whatever and it will not fall off. If you're one of those exercisers who just cannot workout without that special cassette tape...then this is the perfect headphone cassette player for you.

The sound quality is also great. Like many stereo's there's an extra bass button but these little headphones have a big sound. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's pretty good
The Aiwa XP-V503J cd player I bought is pretty good. I enjoyed the easily accessible buttons, but did not like that it skiped. I tried to go down the stairs, and it was constant skipping. 1-0 out of 5 stars Faulty Headphone Jack and Poor Customer Service
The product looked nice, but after using the system for a couple of months the headphone jack became loose and affected the sound (after that, I would need to press my thumb against the headphone jack so that the sound wouldn't break-up).

In addition, navigating through AIWA's customer service is almost as bad as dealing with the IRS. It makes their warranty practically worthless.

In my experience, the AIWA products I've owned (one shelf system, and one portable tape player) have functionally lasted about a year or less. Save yourself some money (and more importantly the headache of dealing with their customer service) and buy a Sony or a Pioneer (or anything else) instead.

2-0 out of 5 stars A disappointed buyer
This is a nice little walkman, the sound is very good the hold feature is nice to prevent accidentally switching stations if you're carrying it in a purse or backpack. The major fault I find with it and the reason I gave it two stars are the headphones, they are very uncomfortable, the foam ear pieces are very thin and actually hurt your ears a bit even though they don't fit closely. Also with the sound down fairly low someone sitting next to me could hear the music quite well, not something you want for a plane trip or sitting on mass transit. I bought this specifically because I liked the idea of having tuning and volume control on a remote on the headphones so I could keep it in my bag and not risk dropping it but the headphones were so bad I wound up using my old pair and foregoing the remote. To bad because it's a nice product except for that. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Great!
I have reallt enjoyed this boom box. I have no complaints!

1-0 out of 5 stars This product 2 years later
The problem that I have with this system is after I have had it for about 2 years the cd player stoped reading cds! What is the point of haveing a cd player that will not work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fills the bill
I work at a remote site which provides housing for me every weekend. I needed a small sound system to play CDs and radio, and especially to boost a pitifully small (by today's standards) 13" TV so I would at least THINK I was enjoying it! This system fills the room with sound, and fits into a large nightstand cabinet. I found hookup to be very easy, especially considering that the speakers have two pairs of leads apiece (one pair for the high/midrange component and one pair for the built-in subwoofer). The sound is awesomely solid -- and the three pre-set EQs can tailor most styles of music. Aiwa makes almost no mention of the surround speakers (a single mention in the manual, buried halfway down one page; nothing on the shipping box). I hooked up a pair of small A/V speakers and found that, from the video source, I was getting true surround signals when they were present. My points off are for the cassette decks -- though CDs can be auto-programmed to fit a cassette, it would be very helpful if the recording deck included auto-reverse. But for the price, it's a versatile system that can also double as an alarm clock. It does what I need -- and it makes watching videos on that 13" TV enjoyable!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Sound in a Small Package
I just bought this system for my mother. She wanted something small that sounded good and could hold 3 CD's. This system also has 2 cassette decks. There are 3 programmed EQ settings from which to choose depending on the style of music you listen to. The display is colorful with lots of moving bar graphs and other information. The unit is very nice-looking and has a high-quality, sturdy feel to it. The real beauty of the system is it's dual-powered subwoofers. Each one get's a dedicated 35 watts leaving a more-than-ample 15 watts per channel for the mid-high range drivers for a sytem total of 100 watts. It sounds great at moderate levels with very clean, deep bass and only suffers at very high levels from distortion due to extreme woofer excursions. It even has outputs for surround speakers. For the size, price, and features of the system it's pretty hard to beat!

4-0 out of 5 stars Aiwa CADW535 Carry Component System CD with Digital Tuner
The sound is very good for the size of the speakers, but not as good as a Bose radio we have. The major fault I find is with the radio reception. It does not pick up the more distant signals that our Bose radio easily picks up. The CD and Tape mechanisms seem to function well, but only time will tell regarding long-term reliability. The 3-mode equalizer is limited to Rock (high and low frequency ranges), Pop (voice and mid-range frequencies), and Jazz (emphasis on the low range frequencies). Overall, this unit is an adequate sound system for those not demanding the highest sound quality and not requiring static-free reception of the weaker AM and FM radio signals. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

With so many compact and mini stereos to choose from, you might find the buying process more than a little confusing. We're happy to recommend the Aiwa XR-M75 as a good starter for a small-scale system. A four-box rig, the XR-M75 comprises a tuner/amplifier, a top-loading single-CD player, and pair of two-way speakers.

The unit is finished in gunmetal gray and has stylish, rounded front edges. You can stack these hefty, durable units on top of one another or place them side by side, depending on your needs. The speakers' high-gloss faux burled-walnut finish imparts a semiluxurious look.

Overall setup is a breeze, as is committing radio stations to memory and setting the timer. One functional feature we especially like is the control-panel drawer that slides from the bottom of the tuner/amplifier. The drawer contains the unit's main controls (you can also access these controls from the remote), leaving the faceplate delightfully free of clutter.

The XR-M75 sounds best reproducing vocals and small-ensemble or acoustic music at moderate levels. Its overall sound is well balanced but a little on the light side--it doesn't produce a lot of bass, especially by today's standards. When you push the XR-M75 to loud levels on rock music, it audibly distorts, so be sure this mini stereo's abilities match your listening tastes.

We've looked at a lot of mini systems, and with its clean design, thoughtful array of features, and ease of setup and operation, the Aiwa XR-M75 is one of the most appealing of the bunch.

Pros:

  • Easy to set up and use
  • Auxiliary inputs accept VCR or PC sources
  • Can record to auxiliary cassette, minidisc, or CD recorder

Cons:

  • Doesn't play well at really loud levels
  • Remote is a tabletop unit, awkward to use with one hand

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product...
I love this stereo: wonderful sound, appearance, price, and size. The sound is better than most larger stereos that I tried. The remote control works from quite a distance, and the hidden control board on the face itself is very cool. Word of warning: don't be stupid like me and fail to connect the cables completely. I thought that I had a defective product (I was even on the phone with the Aiwa) until I really jammed the CD cable into the bottom unit. Then, it worked! One drawback: though the product is discontinued (I called the company), Amazon's price jumped $30.00 within about 3 days of my purchase! It wasn't listed as a sale item, so I was rather shocked when I checked back to review the reviews on the stereo.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aaron C.
This is a great system for the price. I bought this for my office at work to replace my ageing boom box and couldn't believe the difference in sound. The sound is almost as good as my Hi-Fi setup at home yet at 1/10th the price. Another great part is how compact the system is and it still has all the features you could ask for. Several people at work who have bought more expensive stereos for their office have commented on how they wished they would have saved some money and bought this stereo instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great stereo for the money!
As soon as I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised with what I had purchased. This stereo is typical of other Aiwa products I have owned. The fit and finish are excellent, the sound is great for it's small size, and it's features are many and unique. A subwoofer will be required for deep base fans, but overall it's the best deal I've ever gotten on a stereo.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Awesome!
I beg you to find a better system for the price. I did a lot of research on Ultra-Mini and Micro CD stereo systems before I took the chance of ordering this online. I think I found the best sound out there! Especially for the amazing Amazon.com price. I tested micro systems at electonics stores that were upwards of three times the price. The sound clarity of the AWIA is every bit as good... if not better! And, it looks very classy to boot! The speakers have a beautiful gloss coated walnut finish. It's also very easy to use. To sum it up, the XR-M75 offers awesome sound, all the perfect funtions and great looks. I'm considering buying one for my wife's office too!

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW! Get Small
I unpacked this unit this AM and have showed the amazing sound to no less than 5 people who were all blown away. The clarity and functionality of this micro system is amazing. Now I want to find the micro subwoofer system that goes with it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall, a Solid Value
We are very pleased with this compact stereo system. It is very easy to set up and has a very clean, crisp sound. Some of the pluses are:
- ...you get an extra 20 watts per channel [more than Awia's NSX-AJ300], which come in handy because the overall 160W output of this system (160 W)is just right for us but not overpowering. We wouldn't want it to be any less.
- The power saving mode which shuts the unit off after 10 minutes of inactivity comes in handy, especially if you have kids.
- The size of the unit makes it very easy to fit it wherever you want it to. We were pleasantly surprised that a system with so many features could be so compact.
- The ability to play CD-R/RW, CD's made on a PC or CD burner.
- The ability to dub one tape onto another.

The only main downsides had to do with more optional features we would like, not the basic sound quality or functioning of the equipment. These are:
- No ability to program your own order of CD tracks on playback. This is more dissapointing because they use the same manual for this system and the AJ503, so the manual makes it seem as if this unit has programmable tracks, but it doesn't.
- No random playback of the CD tracks. Once again, reading the manual, it gives the impression that this unit has random playback. It doesn't.

Other than those two points, the only systems that seemed in the ballpark with this one were some Phillips and JVC models that were higher priced. For the money, this is a good mid-level compact system with a lot of features and great clean sound quality. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Spend the extra $ for something else
The subwoofer is nice, the speakers are not good, have already relaced mine with another brand, at the moment the receiver is not working, it cuts off after 5 minutes.I will probably have to have it repaired and I have had it 2 months, I am very unhappy with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sound! Great system!
I was skeptical at first. When buying electronics I usually stick to the major players (Sony, JVC, Panasonic, etc.) After firing it up, that skepticism was put to rest. The sound is amazingly clean and clear! The 8 inch 100 watt sub delivers enough bass to rattle your windows and your neighbors too if you so desire. The full range satellites hold their own as well, pumping at high volume (the most my ears can stand anyway) with virtually no distortion. No negatives that I can see. Great performer all around. I'm adding Aiwa to the list of the elite.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best Home Theater value for the money bar none
...it is the best Home Theater System for the money bar none...I have been an an avid Aiwa fan for over 23 years now and have never been disappointed with their products. From my first cassette deck in 1979 to my latest purchase of the HT-D980, that is still the case.

The Ht-D 980 has 120 Watts x 5 which will blow your doors off if not careful! The speakers and subwoofer included in the package sound awesome and can crank with no discernible distortion even at ear-splittingly high levels. It is amazing.

The unit has a plethora of digital inputs to assure you have enough hook-ups for your digital equipment; i.e., DVD, etc. It even offer a Coaxial digital input which is nice, in addition to 3 optical inputs, plus it even offers an optical digital output! As far as regular RCA audio/video inputs, it has 3 inputs and 3 outputs as well as one set of in/out on the front of the unit for quick connection of such things as a video camera, etc. Also for anyone still holding LP's the unit has a phono input which is not so common anymore in the marketplace! Too, another awesome feature is 2 S-Video inputs and outputs for connection of SVHS equipment and output to your S-video equipped television for superior resolution.

Other Home Theater features are 5:1 channel analog input and Dolby Pro Logic. The unit has a graphic equalizer to tailor music or video to your taste and a bass-enhancing feature called super T-Bass which is great for that extra 'Ooomph' out of the subwoofer I need to hear in my Rock music or the soundtract to Apocalypse Now and The Doors.
The tuner in the unit is awesome with 32 presets, all digital. The unit's displays are not only cool looking but well laid out and informative; I especially like the surround display, it rocks!

No drawbacks, only superb performance typical of Aiwa products! Grab it, you won't be sorry. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WHY buy anything else..
The XP-P7260c, is great. It comes with everything to play in your car (if you have a cassette deck), and yes a AC/DC adapter for the home. The only thing i dont really like is the vol knob is a little too small to turn, which makes it hard to reach. Other wise, it will never skipp (48sec anti-shock) and a deep bass! The remote is small but handy. Definatly recommend you buy this!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Lacks proper information
I am trying to simply find out if the unit comes with an AC adapter. It is impossible to determine this!! I cannot find any info. on any of the websites. Calls to the AIWA people at 1 800 289 2492 are futile. You are bounced around from one operator to another. AIWA has just lost my business. ... Read more
