1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Customer Service
Navigating through AIWA's customer service is almost as bad as dealing with the IRS. It makes their warranty practically worthless.

In my experience, the AIWA products I've owned (one shelf system, and one portable tape player) have functionally lasted about a year or less. Save yourself some money (and more importantly the headache of dealing with their customer service) and buy a Sony or a Pioneer (anything else).

3-0 out of 5 stars Bright lights
The AIWA FR-A200 AM/FM Clock Radio works about as one would expect a low-end clock radio to work (if its music you are after there are better radios in the $60.00 range, but for news and early morning traffic reports who needs fine reproduction). The controls are fairly easy to get used to, although the "Sleep" button is sometimes a little difficult to locate in the dark. The "Snooze" button is a snap to find. The only drawback of this Clock Radio is that the green luminous numbers on the clock are VERY bright and may keep light sleepers awake. The light from the radio might fool you into thinking dawn has come earlier than expected. Otherwise I have no problems with this machine. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Aiwa let me down
I have owned two Aiwa stereos in the past four years. The first was purchased by me, the second I received because of the problems with the first. I brought it in for service six times. On both stereos the disc player would spin discs but not play them. I take care of my discs and keep them clean, they would instantly work in another CD player. Not in my Aiwa stereo. I recently sent a letter to Aiwa headquarters informing them of my problems. Let's see what happens. I do know that I will never buy another Aiwa product again. Ever. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product, great price
I've had this for a couple of weeks now,
and I'm really happy with it. Things I like:

It has a Folder skip button, in addition to a track
skip, which makes navigation easy as long as you
divide your tracks into folders when you burn
a CD.

You can fast forward through tracks in MP3 mode.

Has ID tag support, so it will scroll the names of
tracks on the screen.

I use it in my car driving on roads full of potholes,
and it doesn't skip even in mp3 mode.

You can put at least 15 hours of music on one CD!

For the people who complain about these mp3 players
being sensitive to the way a CD is burned, burn
all your mp3 CDs at 2x speed or less, and you
shouldn't have any problems.

I've read bad reviews of players that cost almost twice
the amount of this one, and this player comes with
a car kit. I've read a lot about mp3 cd players before
finally chosing this one because it had such a low price
and a lot of features, and think I made a good choice.

The only thing some people might not like is that the player
is probably 50 percent thicker than most players, but I figure
this makes it more durable, and I either use it at home hooked
up to my home stereo, or in the car so the size does not bother me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good except that it is very sensitive to mp3 burn
This unit does all that I wanted from my MP3-CD player; search capabilty within a mp3 file, resume play, restart exactly where I left, album & track names display etc, which my other mp3 player (Philips exp 101) was not doing all that well. No shock resistance for mp3, but it hasn't really skipped alot and I am happy with it. But my only complaint is this unit is so sensitive to the way the burner has burnt. I had to make several tries before it could understand the files in it. But with my Philips it is a breeze. For the price and performance this one is a good buy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good While It Lasted
I found this player to be quite nice until it died. The user interface is good and it played MP3's without problem. Unfortunately, it only lasted about 1-1/2 years before dying. This is with moderate use in an office environment. Absolutely no harsh handling at all. I guess it is a testament to the quality Aiwa puts into their products. Needless to say, I won't buy another Aiwa product again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good item to buy
i bought the MP3 player from the website. it is just same as it looks like in a pic.i got my deliverly on time, and every thing was in a perfect condition and the packing of the MP3 was so good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great System, Great for a First, Great Price!
... To address the subwoofer problem (which I ran into myself), it is not hard to fix. The connection cord was probably backwards and just needs to be flipped, or the subwoofer has not been turned on THROUGH THE RECIEVER.
This is the first Home Theater I have ever owned. Believe me when I am going to buy something like this I do lots of research. Research is what I did! For about 2 months I read review after review, looked at every system in every store, conducted interviews of people who owned systems. After all that the Aiwa HT-D580 was what I chose. This has Dolby Digital and DTS decoders. It also has a Pro Logic decoder which lets you watch normal cable in surround. It has a great separation that puts you in the movie. The subwoofer sounds great. 50 watts may not sound like much, but it is powered with little distorion even at high volume. This has a volume level of 50. Although The highest I have listened to it was 25, and that was making my house shake. So it is definitly powerful enough for a large family room. It is also pretty easy to use all together, many things are very self explanitory. The best thing about the sound is that it never is distorted even at high volume, many other systems I looked at did. If you don't have much money, want killer sound, deep bass that puts you in the movie, Dolby Digital, Pro Logic and DTS decoders, get this system you will be impressed!

4-0 out of 5 stars not a bad system for the price
i bought this system and its not bad for the price u pay,the subwoofer is cheap at 50watts not alot of power ,but its great for a decent home theater system,oh and by the way i found out its not a great system to run your equalizer through, cause it maxes out easy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Another "the subwoofer bites" customer
...I ... am having problems with the subwoofer. I followed the directions to the letter, and it works for about 45 seconds (on maximum volume)and it is very quiet, too... then it dies. I called AIWA support number, only to talk to a rude and uncaring representative. The system itself is really great otherwise........easy to set up and the surround system sounds GREAT. But, I need to know why the subwoofer doesn't work. I truly think it is in the setup and connection, even though I had an expert hooking it up for me. ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Sound Grrrrrrreeat
First I would like to say buy batteries for the remote because you are GOING to NEED it.

This is a wonderful product for a sound budget.
The only problem I have with the system (which really isnt a problem but more of a nuisance) is that in order for the sub woofer to work you have to enable the function on the receiver via the remote after that it works fine.
Another thing is that the surround speakers are pretty wimpy sounding, but after you adjust the volume of the surrounds (via the remote again) it sounds all right.
I use my existing Bose 301 series IV as surrounds anyway so Im not complaining.
I am also using Aiwa 3-way bookshelf speakers that I brought off a friend of mine a while ago (coincidence huh.
The sub woofer doesnt bump that much, and I dont mind because Im in an apartment above someone anyway. But the handy bass booster function on the receiver compensates.
One highlight to me is when I was attempting to target the source of the bass it was hard for me to do. But I had a pal of mine turn the sub on and off while I took audible notes. And guess what, to my surprise the sub seems to throw the bass to the speakers somehow.

For what you get with this product the "price is right".

The Dolby Digital and DTS processing sounds exact to me as far as I can tell. I brought a PS2 (feeding sound via fiber optic to receiver) last Thursday (2/28/02) and I have watched The Fast & the Furious 8 times in its entirety already (good movie for adjusting your speakers).

The guy that sold me the system (249.99 Bestbuy) should have played the leading role in Liar, Liar.

-FIRST BIG FAT LIE-
My man said, "In order for you to hear this thing you have to NEARLY MAX THE VOLUME".
Boy is he WRONG.
The volume is fine. The receiver maxes at 40+ which at that point a high level warning indicator thingy flashes. I watch movies at 10-15 volume setting, maybe 20 max but no louder.

-SECOND BIG FAT LIE-
He also said "Oh, by the way, when listening to a connected CD player or listening to the radio you can ONLY listen through the front left and right speakers".

The receiver has MULTIPLE listening setting, Phantom, 3stereo, Surround, ect all of which allow you to set how many speakers are utilized depending on how they are connected and more importantly YOUR preference.

Lets just blame it on his bad sells rep skills, trying to get me to buy a much more expensive product.
But his weak feeble attempt just makes me marvel even more at this system each and everytime its powered on.

The receiver is a good buy alone if not a steal in itself.
Try finding a decent receiver, which does Dolby Digital, DTS with fiber optic and coaxial connection for under 300$

If this is what you are considering getting go ahead you wont be disappointed.
Or if you already have speakers and just need a receiver, center channel and sub this is the "Best Buy".

I hoped this helped

See ya

Peace

3-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointed
First thing first, how do i get the subwoofer to work properly. We had it working then, it stopped. I was a little disappointed with the sound & the instructions in the manual. Thank God for tech. support. Eventually, i'll add better speakers later to satisfy my need for bass & good sound. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't last 3 months!??
We bought dozens of these for our classroom music staff and many have stopped working in less than three months or were defective right out of the box, so this isn't a fluke. The customer service is awful, both from the seller and from Aiwa. These were a big waste of money and we will never again buy this brand.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love This product
I researched so many products and I am so glad that i bought this one!!! The headphones are comfortable and the sound is wonderful!! It's great having the AM-FM radio with the cd player. It has so many great features and i recommend it to all of you reading this! The price is not too bad and it is worth it!! I bought mine at Circuit City and it was ($$$) I absolutely love it!!!!! It's a nice looking player too. What also is nice is the lock on it. It also has a hold button on the side which prevents it from turning on when you dont want it to. You also can set 15 stations on the FM radio so all you do is search through the stations you like. It also has 15 on the AM for a total of 30 preset stations! This is a wonderful cd player with the radio! Don't hesitate to not buy this cause you think that all you need is the CD! Its so nice to be able to listen to the radio too. I can not stress how much i love it!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Satisfied customer
This is the first portable CD player I have bought, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I am very satisfied with this unit. One thing I like about it the most is the battery charging capability. Just buy a couple of rechargable AA batteries and plug the AC adapter into it and it will recharge the batteries for you. This saves the hastle of taking the batteries out, putting them in a recharger and them putting them back in. The only complaint I have is that everytime you turn the unit off, the extra bass I like is reset and I have to put it back the way I like everytime I turn it on. It would be nice if it saved this setting. Another thing I would like to see come with this is a belt clip so that you don't have to carry it by hand. Other than these two things, it works great.

1-0 out of 5 stars great sound, poor mechanics and warranty
great sound when it plays. it breaks down quickly and warranty is only 90 days. look elsewhere

1-0 out of 5 stars Latch problem
I purchased one of these units and they sound really great! I really enjoyed the XP-SR320 until the cds played intermittently. I believe the problem is with the locking latch. When closing the cover and locking it sometimes the cd would not mount but when push down on the cover with my hand the display would show that a cd was ready to play, when I let go the display would go blank. The cd would play fine as long as I pushed down on the lock but it finally went bad altogether but the radio still works. The unit worked fine about 6 months. My friend also had this same unit and his unit stop playing cds as well. It's kind of disapointing because this is one of the best sounding portable cd players I have ever heard.

Amazon.com Review

The XP-779's light weight, wide variety of power and output adapters, and high-quality sound make it an ideal portable. Listen to CDs anywhere: the XP-779's anti-shock system helps make your music skip-free.

The XP-779 portable CD player was fairly easy to set up, especially using its car or AC adapter. The only glitch we hit was that turning the unit on wasn't that intuitive. You have to slide the "Hold" switch to "Off" to begin playing CDs. The backlighted LCD display was easy to read, even in a dark car.

The XP-779 comes with an outstanding array of output and power adapters. With the included headphones, you can use it plugged into the wall with the AC adapter or running on regular or rechargeable batteries. The unit also includes a DC car adapter and cassette connector that routes the audio through your cassette player and car speakers. The unit can recharge its own rechargeable Nicad batteries, which made it easy to maintain (you will have to buy those batteries separately, however). The battery indicator was another handy feature. There's nothing worse than slipping in your favorite CD at work and finding you're out of power.

It also boasts a wide range of advanced play features. We especially liked the Resume feature, which lets you pick up where you were when you switched the unit off. We were able to program up to 24 tracks, and we liked being able to use the repeat feature during program play. The electric anti-shock system (EASS PLUS) seemed to reduce the incidences of skipping, even over bumpy gravel roads. Overall, the XP-779 was a superb machine to carry along in the car, during exercise, or at work. Its light weight and rechargeable capabilities made it a pleasure to listen to CDs anywhere.

    Pros:
  • Anti-shock system reduces skipping
  • Unit can recharge with Nicad rechargeable batteries
  • Includes headphones, AC adapter, car tape adapter, and cigarette-lighter adapter
  • Three-stage battery indicator lets you anticipate battery replacement

    Cons:

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Buy!
I bought this product after reading online reviews. Originally I was in the market for a Sony. When I read how satisfied others were with the Aiwa XP-779, I changed my mind. I bought it over a year ago and haven't a complaint! The anti-shock system is excellent! I never found the features difficult to operate, it seemed simple to me. Also, the rechargeable battery function is priceless! I just charge them up before I go away and leave the other attachments at home! If you want a reliable cd player, buy this one, you won't regret it!

4-0 out of 5 stars An AIWA fan...
Bought this portable CD player several weeks back and been using it daily ever since. It was pretty easy to set up (for someone who can't seem to program the VCR) after I briefly looked at the manual and simple to use even in the car, driving. The 20-sec ESP is satisfactory, although it seems to lose bits and pieces of the song when I go over bumpy roads. (Had to check if the ESP was on couple of times and it was on.) The "resume" feature is really handy, starting off where I left off. But it seems to remember that last CD's place when I pop in a new CD. Which can be kind of annoying because I have to turn it off and on again. But the sound quality is excellent and it never skips. The backlit LCD feature has helped me a lot in the dark, too.

This Aiwa XP-779 Portable CD Player has taken enough abuse from me but it's still very sturdy and works excellent. A great deal for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best player ive seen(or heard?)
it's a great little player ive had mine sense 1998 and it's been working great ever sense, it just died today on me though. but it's ok. i decided to buy another one just because i know i'll get my money's worth. i've to dropped mine.slammed it. kicked it.. and just beat it. but it's a great product and a good buy..

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Player
The Aiwa CD player is one of the best that I have purchased. I have had it for almost 4 years now. It plays CD-R's as well as regular CDs. The sound quality is good, and for those of you that like volume and bass this model will satisfy. I've dropped it, bounced it and it's incredibly hard to get it to skip. (Though it did skip when it hit the floor from the treadmill.) The silver body does get scratched up pretty easily, though that really only messes up the aesthetics and not the sound quality. THe car kit is complete and easy to use. The backlight display is very helpful in the dark.

Amazon.com Review

An incredible value, Aiwa's AV-D58 brings in Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround decoding, multiple digital-audio inputs, simulated surround processing, and an impressive 80 watts per channel for well under the $300 floor that used to be the norm for such features. Surround listening (through left, center, right, and left and right surround speakers and a subwoofer) heightens the realism of both DVD movies and, more recently, music.

In the event that you decide to upgrade to a high resolution DVD-Audio player, this receiver offers 5.1-channel analog inputs to accept a decoded DVD-Audio output. (DVD-Audio signals are too high-resolution for most digital-audio inputs.) With full features and an affordable price, this receiver is the perfect excuse to take your DVD enjoyment to the next level. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bargain Value For The Price!
Always looking for bargains that contain all the features I need, I discovered this AWAI-D58. Not only is it inexpensive for the options you recieve, but they are high-class options. Dolby Digital is common, but this reciever has DTS-5.1 digital decoding, which means you can buy those DTS Concert DVD's and listen to them as they were meant to be listened to. The reciever has five speakers (2-Front/2-back/one-subwoofer) outputs. It even has an audio analog input to accept a decoded DVD. In other words, you cannot go wrong.

I use this with my APEX AD-1.500 DVD player. It's almost as good as a professional loud theatre without all the distractions. Lap it up now!

5-0 out of 5 stars good value for money
Has all the features of most high end receivers and only cost me 200us dollars.Dsp, dts, dolby digital, great sound and depth,I would say it's fairly easy to set up and once you have set it up to aquire your own personal taste you will be impressed to say the least I can assure you.Great value for money and I am one satisfied individual.

1-0 out of 5 stars Died after two years
The power supply died after less than two years of mild use. Now I have to trash it? The sound was so-so, with a high pitch all the time. Good for begginers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Go Awia!!!
I bought this receiver mainly because of the Super T-Bass System because I didn't have the money for a Subwoofer at the time. Boy was I impressed!!! Not only is the T-Bass awsome but the Dolby Digital, DTS, and DSP surround sound sounds really awsome. The only complaints I have is the unit is supposed to have 5.1 analog inputs like others wrote about but it doesn't. The other complaint is if you turn the volume up past 39 it cuts the bass half way off, since I don't own a sub this is a nusance. But most the time 80watts x5 is enough power for me. I have now had this Receiver for 2 years and have not had any problems with it. For [the money] the Aiwa AV-D58 is a great buy!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's hard for me to let go of money, but
I had a couple of '80s model Pioneer components that needed to retire and all I wanted to do was listen to my movies in stereo. I only have 2 Pioneer speakers right now and a pre-digital stereo TV. I also have a DVD, VCR, satellite and Playstation.

I research anything that I have to shell out over 50 bucks for, so this was no different. For the money, this one seems to create some extra salivation that I wasn't used in my non-digital world!

So many settings and jacks for components (even for turntables). The buttons are sooo fun to play with. It can make any stereo TV sound like a theater!! (I do seem to have to crank the volume when running from only the TV, but not from the other components). There are several audio settings for different (and really cool) effects, and a built-in digital EQ for those of us who need to "tweek" our sound. There are RCA jacks in the front so you can plug in that extra toy you only get out every once in a while like the camcorder, or if you want to dub from another component. The radio tunes perfectly, the digital readout is wonderful, and it all runs on a remote (it's good to pamper yourself once in a while).

It takes the "stripped wire" speaker wires and it clips them in place instead of that spring-loaded thing. It looks really bulky, but it's actually real lightweight and easy to move around. I didn't have to buy anything extra to get it to sound good.

If you're still running on that old system, you won't be disappointed! I haven't found anything this doesn't do, it even says "Hello" and "Goodbye". I've had this for at least a year now with no problems (except the sound still gives me goosebumps). And, it's way ahead of me if I ever decide to upgrade my other components. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for people on the go
This AIWA Cross Trainer works fairly well - it doesn't skip if you run with the CD Player in your hand. However, I've found that even walking with the CD Player in a cargo pocket of my pants will cause skipping. Unlike the Sony Discman player, there is no hand strap on this AIWA model. So if you don't mind holding on to the CD Player while you walk or run, it's a fairly good buy.

The headphones, however, tend to be a bit uncomfortable after a period of time. The little curly things that hook onto your ears put a little pressure on your ears, causing some discomfort. I often use the CD Player but use the more comfortable headphones from a different model.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Player
I ordered mine back in August. I have used the player alot, and I feel that it is a great little player. It's antiskip is great, it's water resistant, so I don't ruin it if it start to rain while I'm outside with it, and it looks great. The performance of the unit overall is great.

1-0 out of 5 stars A company that doesn't care.
We bought the player at the end of November and gave it as a Christmas gift. It began malfunctioning by mid March. The stereo only works when you pull the plug partway out and the unit also stops playing on a random basis...just turns off for no apparent reason. When contacted, AIWA customer service said 'tough luck... you bought it more than 90 days ago so you pay for service'. These are obvious manufacturing defects and occurred within 90 days of use although the actual purchase occurred a month before it was used. I would have though that AIWA would have wanted to stand behind the quality of their product. It will be the last AIWA product I will buy

4-0 out of 5 stars Great player
I first purchased a cheap CD player for my daughter and found that the batteries had to be replaced just about every other day. I purchased this CD player on it battery usage alone. I had no idea how great this cd player really was. My daughter is 5 and uses this in the car during travel. Never a single problem and is easy enough for her to use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Aiwa produces good quality CD player
I run 3 to 5 times a week. I recently purchased a Panasonic jogger CD player and returned it because it skipped so much. Then I purchased the Aiwa XP-SP920. I like the quality of this product however, there is two features that need improving. The first feature is the skip button, it is in an inconvenient place on the CD player. My other complaint is at times the random feature has a mind of its own. I like the 48 second anti-skip, it works very well. I also am very happy with all of the other features on this product. ...
