Amazon.com Product Description This boombox also has Q Sound, a signal-processing circuit designed to produce a more expansive sound. The front-positioned speakers use a bass reflex system to reproduce lower frequencies more efficiently. Three graphic equalizer presets serve to fine-tune sound. The CSDTD21 has a headphone jack (headphones not supplied). It comes with a line cord and can run on eight C batteries (not included). Aiwa's warranty covers a year on parts and 90 days on labor. I use the 418 about three hours a day, seven days a week. It takes a pair of AA batteries, which gives fairly good playing time. However, I use two pairs of NIMH rechargeable batteries interchangeably -- I change the batteries after every three hour session, which maximizes battery longevity... The radio is good but not as good as that of the 779 nor of the 88V -- its more sensitive to antenna orientation and it doesn't hold fringe stations as strongly. Like my previous AIWA, the preset station memory seems to last even if battery power is absent. The memory setting process is about like that of other cassette stereo players -- tedious enough that you don't want to do it more than once a year, if that often. You can preset 20 FM and 10 AM stations. There are two FM ranges of 10 presets each. Its all too much for me, as I only use 5 stations per range -- so I set the 5 stations twice in each range in the same order so that I never lose my way when I'm using the remote without seeing the LCD panel. The tape player is adequate except over rough terrain, when it skips and wobbles -- I've never encountered that problem with a portable tape player before. It doesn't happen with the other two units mentioned above. This might be a problem for a jogger. Although it's convenient to change batteries in this unit, one thing to watch out for is the plastic piece in the body which the battery compartment door latch engages. The previous 779 used the same mechanism, and that piece of plastic broke after about a year and a half of use so that I had to use a rubber band around the body to hold the battery cover in place. If possible, I would suggest carrying it so that the longest dimension is horizontal rather than vertical -- this takes some of the pressure off of the battery compartment cover and its latch piece. The remote, which I use extensively, is pretty good but like similar units might be trying for someone with large fingers or for anyone with gloves (me 6 months out of the year). The remote seems easier to use than the on-unit controls, although the latter have more functions, including a button for repeating tape phrases and an S-Bass setting -- neither of which I have ever used. The nearly twice as expensive Panasonic 88V is better in almost all features (except it only uses one AA battery), but it has a fatal flaw: I use the unit in conjunction with a radio powered remote dog trainer, and the Panasonic remote control switches stations/tape directions whenever I use the dog trainer remote! The AIWA remote is immune to this problem. I don't use the included "neck" earphones but rather a set of Sony earbuds instead. There is no strap or carrying case included, nor would I expect one at this price. It is the same size as the other two units mentioned above, but it has rounded corners which make it easier to put into and take out of a pocket or other carrying spot -- unlike the Panasonic 88V, which has a very ungainly tape compartment latching knob that gets caught in fabric. The body is thin gauge aluminum, which is light and reasonably dent-resistent, although I've managed to acquire one dent and numerous scratches because of how I carry the unit in a waist-pack with assorted hardware. When battery power is too weak for tape operation, the unit does NOT chew up the tape like the previous AIWA unit -- it just produces sickly sound quality and eventually stops working. Obviously I give it heavy use and it holds up reasonably well. Dictated by ScanSoft NaturallySpeaking
I was not disappointed. This is what portable radio/cassette players should look and feel like. Slim, light, low profile buttons--but does not seem too flimsy ... Easy to put in the batteries. Pop in cassettes with no problem. Intuitive interface--with one minor exception. (When you use a preset radio station, you have to "change modes" before tuning manually. Okay.) Good sound. Excellent reception. And the little "remote control" wand that you insert between the unit and the headphones is gnarly--even if are not sure what you need it for. The unit needs a second or two when you push Play, Rew, or FFwd, and it then beeps for some strange reason--but the response is always smooth and reliable. No problems so far. The headphones are small and not adjustable!--and I have a small head. But perhaps the idea is for them to go around/behind your neck, and then the strange ear clips suddenly begin to make sense. One minor thing the unit could use is a belt clip or a loop for a sports strap--be prepared to set it down or carry it. I spent extra money because I am tired of ... "walkmen" that do not work and break in a week. So far I can recommend this to anyone who wants a good portable radio/cassette player for a little extra money--but does not need a high end unit that you can take up Mount Everest or into the Pacific Ocean. ... And what a great price! I like this one more than an ugly long thing I got in 92 for more than double this price.
My wife borrowed it so often I've just ordered her one of her own!!
Construction quality appeared to be excellent.

The sound is crisp, clear, and robust. Of course your not going to have awesome bass, dah, its a freaking small headphone speaker. But this unit can compeate stright up with units costing 2 or 3 or 4 times as much. Yeah I thought, 20 bucks its going to be so so, I was wrong. I don't have any ideal why its only 20 dollars but unlike others I dont look a gift horse in the mouth, I ride it baby, And boy am I glad I did. It's everything a portable walkman should be, the problem with the other review was he was knocking it for not deliviring something its not suppose to anyway. It be like me buying a great surf board and giving it 2 stars cause its a crappy sewing machine. Don't buy this and your missing out on one sweet deal. Its a great walkman that happens to be 20 dollars not a 20 dollar walkman that happens to be okay....
Rave: 1.Price. Besides I had to use my Xmas certificate from last year before it expired.

Built in Dolby Digital is expensive now, but alows you to save $100 on a DVD player, giving this system an actual future. In addition, built in Pro-Logic also allows for surround sound for those of us who can't afford a DVD player. The CD player is perfectly adequate. Although mega-disc capacity would be nice, it is hardly necessary. The tape player as well is great, for those rare times when I still use tapes. I've had no issues with sound quality on either. Sound is full and rich on the CDs as well as on the few tapes I've tried. Input abilities are outstanding. I currently have this set up in my dorm room along with the Aiwa sub-woofer. I have both my TV and computer rnning their sound through it, in addition to the CD player. This fills up my two analog in, but I still have two digital sound inports for Dolby Digital if I can ever afford a DVD player or something else that utilizes digital sound out. Digital sound in is one optical port, one coaxial port. There is also a microphone in jack, as well as headphones. Sound out is accomplished through both analog and digital optical. Computer games are given an oomph that no set of computer speakers will ever give, and with personal equalizer settings, to go from games to rock music to classical to movies to sports is a cinch. My only complaints are the tinny center and rear speakers, but this is more than made up for by the outstanding fronts, especially since those mainly just do dialog and environment in movies, and rarely get the big sound. The big noise goes to the fronts, which are more than up to the task. These things can put out some serious sound. Incidentally, if you're going to spend the money on a system of this level, suck up the extra $160 for the subwoofer. It's worth it. Bass in these speakers is good (long-live three-way), but it is nothing compared to what a dedicated subwoofer can pull. Plus, the receiver is sophisticated to turn off the low frequencies to the fronts and leave that to the sub. Since the fronts are now focused on a narrower range of sound, they are able to produce what is left even better. Between the system and the subwoofer I spent $750, and it was worth every penny. ... Amazon.com Review It's not like listening to cable TV, however; you can receive only over-the-air signals from channels 2 through 13 in your area. So if you live in a big city, you might receive as many as seven channels. In rural areas, with fewer channels, you might be able to tune in two or three. But either way, you can probably fall asleep to The Tonight Show or wake up to Today. The FR-A308 offers a modern take on the classic cathedral radio (Aiwa calls it a bullet design), with a green LED display set against a glistening black contour. The dual alarms can be set to either a beep tone or any of the four analog bands (AM, FM, TV, or weather). Although the FR-308 accepts a battery backup--a 9-volt battery is required--it doesn't work like most backups. Most clock radios with battery backup typically shut down when power is lost but preserve the correct time when power is restored. The FR-308 backs up the clock and alarm for about 10 minutes, letting you unplug and move the unit without interruption. This clock radio can seem confusing to tune at first because the lower end of the TV band is combined with the FM radio. Just remember that you have to adjust a switch on the side of the radio to give you one of three settings: the AM band, FM with TV channels 2 through 6, and weather with TV channels 7 through 13. Once you've mastered it, you'll shift quickly between radio, weather, and TV. The FR-A308's versatile four-band option can be matched by few clock radios. Pros: Cons: Features

Amazon.com Product Description Spacious, dynamic sound is a main highlight of the Aiwa CSD-ED67. Two upward-firing front surround speakers are housed on top of two normal front-facing bass reflex speakers. The sound from these additional speakers is reflected and slightly delayed before reaching your ears, giving an impressive surround sound effect with enhanced presence and depth. Q Sound, a signal processing circuit, creates a virtual sound stage and enhances the width, height, and depth of your recordings. Combined with more standard features, like Super Bass options and a three-preset graphic equalizer, Q Sound presents listeners with a wide range of sound options. For users on the go, the three-point battery-life indicator gives plenty of notice before the batteries run out. And the electronic antishock system will prevent mistracking when you are in motion. For privacy, neckband headphones are included with the Aiwa CSD-ED67. Features Reviews (4)
The base is a bit weak, but other than that the sound quality is excellent. Radio reception is excellent as well. What I really like about it, however, is that the volume is well regulated. It's not that you can't play it loud--you can. But it does stop well short of deafening. This makes it an ideal indoor unit. Loud enough to play while taking a shower without letting the whole neighborhood know what you are listening to. On the whole, a tremendous value for the money.
The CSD-ED67 provides big system sound in a compact but sturdily built unit. The Q-sound feature gives a very passable simulation of surround sound and, combined with the quality full-range speakers, delivers rich, clean musical and vocal tones. The three pre-set EQ choices are distinctly different and do work well in emphasizing specific frequency ranges for your chosen musical style. As with most Aiwa units, the sound is more precise than powerful. If you are looking for straight, wall-shaking noise, this unit may not give you what you want. However, if you want pure, sweet tones and distinct separation of vocals and instruments, the CSD-ED67 is up to the task. This unit does a good job of recording to cassette; however, most of the more advanced functions (specifically, programmability) are accessed through the remote, which can be a bit inconvenient. Nonetheless, this unit is a remarkable value and provides the buyer with a bargain basement opportunity to enjoy the wonderful world of Aiwa stereo systems. At this price, you simply can't go wrong. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review The Aiwa HS-TX481 sports a lightweight design, making it easy to carry during exercise or general use. This tape player contains all the essential features, including fast-forward, rewind, and both single and continuous-loop reverse capabilities. While the player's slick metallic design is pretty, it might confuse some users. We were particularly perplexed at the hold button, which operates correctly with a turn, rather than a push. Also lacking is a standard radio station scan feature. However, the player does contain an auto-preset feature that scans for available radio stations and automatically configures presets for stations with a strong signal. The unit can hold up to 30 different stations. The HS-TX481 also includes headphones and a detachable belt clip. Pros: Cons: Features

Amazon.com Product Description Playback functions include 25-track programmable play and a jog dial to get you to the exact song on the disc. The unit includes an AC adapter, a carrying case, headphones, rechargeable battery, and an LCD-backlit remote. Features Reviews (34)
The only thing I would have liked is that it would have included a blank MD to start recording. Ah, and the headphones are a little bit uncomfortable. I prefer small pill hearphones instead of a star-treek looking headset. That's it. Try it, it's worth the price, and your satisfaction is guaranteed!
Wish it had a belt clip, was lighter. Never use the carrying case (it's a bag with a drawstring), optical cable (my stereo's not good enough to have an optical out) Hate that it takes as long to record as tapes do, and that I can almost never record for the entire 74 minutes of a disc. I mean I can but when I play it back it starts to skip after about 50 minutes. I also had trouble with the door on mine (one day it stopped opening), and the discs no longer eject themselves when I open it, I have to stick my finger in and pull them out. It can skip too.
