5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Awai has put togather a great alarm clock. I live in a remote area, and the wire FM antenna is a great help in picking up stations. The clock is easy to set up and the dual alarms are useful. I like the large numerals on the clock. I recommend this clock to anyone interested in these features. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars After a ton of research...
I decided to buy this box, after checking out the sound quality and volume strength of four higher-priced boomboxes. When compared with the equally-priced Sony CD-R/RW Boombox with Digital AM/FM Tuner (Model: CFD-S26), the sound quality was slightly higher, though this Aiwa model has no presets for stations you like, as an option. The Sony has presets, but didnt have the compact design and sweet sound of this bad boy.

The power cord is detachable, making things nice and easy for travel, and this unit is surprisingly light, but not at all cheap-feeling, as the first reviewer stated. After touching and fiddling with every boombox at ...this one and the Sony were the more sturdily built of the entire selection. The contol panel is nice, and its solid color and sleek design are very elegant and low key. It's an adult's boombox. ...

I hope this review helps anyone who is having as hard a time as I did figuring out the best buy on a boombox. Good Luck.

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk
This boombox is a piece of junk. I had to return it because the cassette tape player made so much noise that I couldn't even hear the tape playing. The top to the CD player wouldn't open very easily and the whole thing just seemed like it was made really cheaply. Many of the buttons on the front didn't even line up with the holes they were in. I was also surprised on how big it was. I didn't think it would take up that much room. I would not recommend buying this boom box at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable sound quality
This little boombox delivers extraordinary sound quality. I took it for a test drive using a classical music CD, featuring many instruments, comparing brands for sound quality, right on the store shelves. The comparable Sony was pretty good, but this Aiwa just blew me away with its sound reproduction, even with stringed instruments. It was a very noticeable difference in sound quality. Nothing else on the shelf came even close. The radio presets are a bit hard to find, but it does have this feature. The volume is sufficient for one room, and there is NO distortion even at max volume, but don't expect it to fill the whole house with sound.
Pros:
- Sound quality +++++ (in the "Wow' category)
- No distortion
- Easy controls
- Digital tuner
- Excellent value
- Great for an office or room
Cons:
- Max volume could be a bit louder, however, it was no less than anything else on the shelf in its price/size class.

You won't regret buying this excellent boombox.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Sounds for the Money
My wife and I wanted an inexpensive boombox, that was portable and had good sound. This was our choice. It doesn't quite have the booming bass that other portable stereos have, but it does have bass boost, which helps and it has a stereo expander that is simply amazing.

Also, when I was testing out boomboxes at a local stereo store, I noticed that many of the radios were unable to tune in a radio station on FM in the building. This stereo, with its digital tuning, had no such problem. The receiver works quite well.

I would recommend this boombox to anyone...especially for the price. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
This was one of the worst buys I've ever made. I returned my original one, because it made an excessive amount of noise. The replacement made the same amount of noise. The CD-loading mechanism is pretty bad and has to be helped along to work. Now, the tape mechanism is broken.

The remote is awful. It looks good initially, but many of the best features are hidden under the plastic shield. It's awkward to use. I don't plan on buying another AIWA product. The JVC I had before was much better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very clear sound
Amazingly good sound for such a small unit! All my audiophile friends who got great mega systems, also bought this marvel.
Some for bedroom, like the previous reviewer did.
Whoever wants it, should hurry though, since it is discontinued
item and to my knowledge, only some Circuit City stores carry them for $169.99 while supplies last.

the labor warranty is only 90 days. the cost of repaire is more than the value of the product.Aiwa hides this fact and asks you to ship the product at your cost and than asks you for repaire authorization

4-0 out of 5 stars Aiwa CSD-FD82 - A Winner for Compact Office Space
Has a nice, clear sound. Perfect for the office because the tape cassette and cd player are located on top, allowing you to place desk items directly in front of the unit--eliminating the need for leaving space for the opening/closing of cd trays or cassette tape loading.

4-0 out of 5 stars Aiwa XC-RW700 rocks!
I bought this unit perhaps a year and a half ago.... For the price, I don't see how I could have gotten much more for my money:
* 1x/2x/4x recording.
* One R-only and one R/W bay.
* Excellent display (good info).
* Optical and coax o/p and even better, an extra opt/in on the front panel.
* Headphone jack.
* CD sync.
* Good remote.

Overall, the unit has performed well. I use it for straight CD>CD copies (of both commercial and home-made CDs); MD>CD copies, CD>MD copies, and sometimes as simply a CD player. The remote is full-featured and easy to use.

Complaints: The display takes a little getting used to; for example, track numbers and track times have very little separation. You see something like this:
0105:09, meaning track 1 with 509 elapsed (or 509 remaining. depending on display setting). Minor complaint.

The unit is rather slow to fully load CD, another minor complaint. Finalization takes a while. There is no digital record level, a feature I use often with minidisc but wouldn't use much anyway with CD-R. Programmed tracks can be dubbed only at 1x/2x, entire discs you have the option of all three speeds.

For the price, I would rate this unit 4 stars. I'd like to give it five, but for me to give something five stars, it has to follow me around the house and clean up after me ;-)

Oh, one other thing...like most or all non-pro CD recorders, this one employs the hated SCMS. Since I have a nice German-made SCMS stripper, I could not care very much less, but you should realize that your digital copies of commercial CDs will not be digitally copyable without additional equipment. Similarly, an external copy-protected medium will need intervention to be copied digitally using this machine.

I bought it at [store] where they tried to sell me an extended service contract. I declined. No problems yet with the machine (hope that keeps up!).

1-0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy
Worthless piece of JUNK. Wasted my money on this. Everytime I try to dubb a cd it would tell me no audio no matter how many times I chaged the cd-rw. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Review
This system does work very well, and one does get a lot for its price. It has everything that we would need for a complete home theater system (Except maybe a subwoofer, but it does come with a subwoofer input if one is to added to the system), and it's one of the few systems [in that price range] that do come with a Dolby Digital decoder for decoding the 5.1 discreet channels of audio that DVDs can play. It also has very good quality sound for its price, and adding a subwoofer to the system enhances it even further. I do think that it's a very good buy for those who want a great sounding home audio and home theater system without spending too much money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth more than you'll pay..
I had a very young sales person and he knew what he was talking about. He said ever since they came out with this system, the others on the adjoing shelves stopped selling.The sound is huge for this size and price and it looks and feels good as well.My Cd skips occasionally and I am getting a new box next week (still under warranty). The only other problem I can see with it is there is no record button on the remote. So, you have to get up and down when you want to record that favorite song on the radio. I was very suprised and pleased with this and am more than satisfied with it. It SHOULD cost more. Though I only paid 198.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best sounding shelf system available!
I shopped a very long time for the best shelf system for the best price. This was one of the first ones I found that really impressed me. The sound is extremely clear, and it has more than enough power for a one-room system. I can't stress enough how great this system sounds! I have only one minor complaint- the CD player seems to take a longer time than normal to read the CDs, but you just have to be a bit patient. This system also looks great, which is an added bonus! Highest recommendation!

1-0 out of 5 stars Sounds great....when it works
I received this system as a Christmas gift and was very excited. I hooked it up, everything worked except the Digital Input for 5.1 DD surround sound. I have to pop the [thing] open and find out what wrong. I don't know what I did but it then worked great, for about 3 weeks. Then it began cutting it and out 15 or so minutes apart. Each time it cut out I had to walk up to it and unplug the cable,insert the plug again for the sound to come out. Its not my cable either, I have a high quality Acoustic Research cable. Finally, I decided to open it up again and guess what I found, the plastic plug had melted onto the motherboard, causing a short. The sound doesn't work at all now so I have to send it in for repairs. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Best cost/benefit stereo radio cassette recorder
This is the cheapest stereo radio cassette recorder that you can get. The quality is excelent. It records tapes, plays tapes, record radio directly to the tape, records voice via flat mic (the one on the front) or other external mics (not included) and plays radio. Super Bass is very usefull. The real thing looks better than the photo on Amazon. Headphone is kinda big, but very good. I was going to buy a tape recorder only, but when I found this item at this price, I couldn't resist. BEST BUY !

5-0 out of 5 stars In search of...
Amazing little unit. I am highly impressed with it's versitily. There are very few cassette player/recorders that allow you to tape not only voice recordings but you can tape directly off of the radio. The stereo mic (which I also thought was included in the package) has yet to be found! The search continues....

5-0 out of 5 stars good value
Good value in a compact unit, excellent FM reception. The built in mike is adequate; however, the package stated that an option stereo mike was included, which it was not and so far I have not been able to find one. A drawback since I wish to use this unit on an upcoming trip to SE Asia to record ethnic music. Otherwise I an very impressed w/ this little unit. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Sound, Great Value, Uncomfortable Headphones
I remember when I bought my first Walkman. It cost about 80 bucks and didn't even have a radio or auto-reverse. This portable stereo has it all and at a very reasonable price. It sounds good too and the microprocessor equalizer control helps you fine-tune the unit for your personal sound preference. The only complaint I have is that the headphones are not very comfortable. I would recommend buying a more comfortable pair of headphones to go with this player.

4-0 out of 5 stars clear sound, light weight
I bought this to listen to tapes on the subway. I was suprised at the high quality of sound from the radio and tape playback. There is minimal background noise. It is also very light weight, making it easy to carry around. The two things I didn't like are the earphones which are large and clumsy, it works better with earplugs, and the volume switch which is low set and sometimes difficult to turn to adjust the volume. Overall I am very satisfied with this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Sound
This unit can't be beat..great sound & great price. I use it for listening to music, talk radio and books-on-tape and it beats the $60.00 Sony I had on all counts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great deal!
I bought this walkman and didn't expect such a great performance from such a cheap walkman. Great sound, slim as an audio cassette. If you're looking for a great deal, this is it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific sound!
The minute I put this baby on and hit play I was highly impressed at the lovely sound quality. The energy level light for the batteries is a wonderful feature as well as the choice of forward or reverse play without removing the cassette and turning it over. How nice!

I feel I got my money's worth and then some. I will go with this brand when looking for a portable CD player. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value for many features
I've been a consumer of Aiwa portable "walkman's" since 1981. Back then the cabinets were made of steel and the units were quite rugged but pricey. A few years ago I tried an Aiwa walkman but returned it because the volume was too weak.

This walkman is loud enough with very little distortion. It has good stereo separation and sufficient bass enhancement for a pleasing sound quality. I was surprised at the sensitivity of the FM tuner. I live in a rural area and can reliably pick up about three stations clearly. This walkman tuned in about double that number quite well.

The feature I most desired in this low-priced unit is the auto reverse. My only suggestion would be to add a button to change the direction of the tape. As it is now it is necessary to flip a direction switch which is a bit cumbersome in my opinion.

I am satisfied with this walkman and recommend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars **This is the best deal you will find**
I did a serious amount of homework before buying this stereo. I looked at nearly every online retailer and Amazon was the cheapest by about 40 dollars minimum. I also looked at the AIWA NSX-A888, but it only has 200 watts. The A909 has 20 more and it really makes a differece. The overall sound quality is better than the A888 too. This system is great for rock and anything that you want to listen to with Bass. I have what could be the loudest stereo in my dorm now. Rest assured that if you buy this stereo, you will not be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars This thing rocks!
I totally LOVE my new stereo. Not only did it arrive at my house super fast, the owner's manual made it incredibly easy to set up the system. The sound output is great, I have no complaints. I haven't been able to figure out how to make the dimmer on the display work yet, doesn't seem to do anything when I follow the instructions in the manual. Still, even if that feature never works, I'd buy this baby again in a second. I seriously doubt I would've found such a great deal at a store, and in fact some friends bought the same unit for $150 more. I was hesitant buying a stereo system online, but the candid customer reviews made it less intimidating, and I'm grateful for that extra service that Amazon.com has here. Thanks so much you guys!

5-0 out of 5 stars grrrreat sound system
this is fantastic- it immediatly blew me away with the excellent sound quality. it holds up to 3 cd's so you don't have to get up and change them. one of the best pieces out there for the price

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for pop, rock and disco--DO NOT BUY for classical
This unit really lends itself to synthesizer-based music, but forget about listening happily to classical music, including opera. The brass section sounds tinny and the strings hollow, and no matter what equalizer setting I put it on, nothing helps. Fortunately, my eclectic tastes in music leave me plenty of satisfactory options, but classical CDs truly sound better on my Magnavox boombox than on this thing. It does, however, look nice on a shelf, plus you're not commited to the speakers since you can plug other kinds in, unlike some mini-systems. ... Read more
