3-0 out of 5 stars Does what they advertised, but...
I bought FotoShow to take with me on an international trip, figuring that zip disks would be cheaper than buying a few 128MB compact flash cards for my digital camera. When I got it, it turned out to be VERY big for traveling. It's a large unit with a heavy power supply, which is not what I had in mind.

The alternative was something like a digital wallet; smaller footprint (I assume) and one disk to hold lots of 128MB downloads. However, a digital wallet won't let you view the pictures unless you have a PC with you.

Having said that, it does seem to work well when viewing pictures on a TV. It has good resolution and useful features. The remote control is lousy, though. Cryptic buttons and cumbersome menus that I never seem to be able to remember without help from the manual.

Note: I have not yet been overseas with FotoShow. I am assuming it will work where I'm going, but an earlier review said that it's incompatible with foreign TVs. I'll find out soon, I guess...

4-0 out of 5 stars Three years experience
A friend asked about mine and wanted to buy one. On checking the Iomega site to send him a link I discovered they no longer make this. It is a grat product. I don't know of any other way to view digital pictures on a TV other than directly from the camera if it has a video out jack. The Iomega software works pretty good except that you have to put the pictures in viewing order from the Fotoshow. If you put them in order from your computer in Windows Explorer for example the pictures will revert to the order that Fotoshow had them. Other than that it's a great product.

4-0 out of 5 stars It does what I need it to do.
I got the Fotoshow mainly to serve as a zip drive and as extra storage for my digital camera when I go on vacations. As a zip drive, it works as expected. It's nice to have the option to take it with me as additional storage for my digital camera. I thought of going with a digital wallet, but the thought of carrying (and dropping) a harddrive with all my pictures in it worries me.

There are a few things that I think would make the Fotoshow better.

1. The card slots are useless when the Fotoshow is connected to the computer via USB cable. It would be nice to be able to use the Fotoshow as a card reader.

2. The power transformer is big and heavy. It should be smaller and lighter for travel.

3. Option for battery/portable power.

4. Faster operation when using the TV.

Overall, I like the Fotoshow. I would like it better if Iomega would fix the items above.

2-0 out of 5 stars CF tranfer too Slow
It have nice resolution, but the transfer time to Zip drives are extremely slow!, it take about 30min to transfer a 128mb Compact Flash to a 250M ZIP drive.

4-0 out of 5 stars 3 features add up to a decent product.
Feature 1. USB zip drive.
Feature 2. Compact Flash/Smart Media to zip drive transfers.
Feature 3. Television Display of Images.

The biggest reason I got this was the ability to dump my compact flash card to disk. A 20 gig hard drive digital wallet would be
nice but, its about 3 times the cost.

I plan on going to Australia from the US, and did not want to lug by laptop with me. I bought it for this reason alone, although since it was a ZIP drive as well that gave me extra incentive.

I tested it this weekend on both smart media and CF flash and it worked perfect.

Copy of 38 images off smart media took less than a minute. It seemed the same for compact flash.

Retrieving the images from the Zip drive to a computer was efficient. The photos are under a folder called originals.

Hooking it up to your TV and having it display is simple, it just takes a bit of time to process NEW images.

The TV display is so so. SOme of the editing capabilities are nice, but a bit cumbersome.

It was a big plus to display the images on the TV for my wife and parents.

AS a sample of the usefulenss. A friend had about 150 pictures on A CD of my daughter playing baskeball. I copied the images from the CD to the zip drive, (when it was hooked up to my computer of course). I brought the unit to "grandma's" house. Hooked it up to the TV turned it on, and it took about 15 minutes to "process" the picutres. After that we had a nice slide show....

I think grandma is going to buy one......

The only minor issue I had is

The AC power adapter is only 110 60 cycle. Most digital products these days the AC power adapter is 110/220 60/50 cycle. I have a UNIVERSAL power adapter so I should be OK. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool!
I purchased my new Clik drive a few weeks ago it works pretty good for its 'mini' size. Since I use my laptop mostly away from home and alot of places don't offer the space and comfort of home or the office, I want everything onboard the computer. My laptop is a replacement for my desktop so I expect all the functionality including the ability to stick something with more MBs than a floppy into it without the usually bulky add-on. It's a lot quieter than the Zip 250 I use on the other computer. I must say I'm impressed with what I've seen do far, the Clik appears to be a good buy. It'll be a while before I'm out of the 'show-off' phase.

I love the carrying case, I use mine for disks storage and the drive is always in the port where it sould be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, fast external storage for laptops
Tired of lugging around slow parallel port R/W storage drives for your laptop? The Clik! is fast (uses internal buss/pcmcia connection), highly portable, low cost, and one of the newest toys on the block. It is what the floppy replacement should be. Besides, it comes with its own stylish brushed aluminum case which fits in your pocket (when not stored in the Laptop, which is where I keep mine when not taking it someplace for show & tell). Now I just need to figure out what to do with my regular Zip drive and CD-ROM writers with their multi-pound power supplies. Still useful but heavy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solved my BIG problem
An owner of two laptops, one old Windows 95 and a new Windows XP, I'd been frustrated trying to copy files between computers. When the old computer's floppy drive broke (the CD ROM was already broken) it seemed nearly impossible to copy the large number of files from one PC to the other. Several costly solutions were tried that did not work. At last I decided to try the Clik! drive. Following the painstaking process of emailing the installation files between PCs, the software installed flawlessly on the old PC, and worked immediately. After this, I was concerned I'd need a second software CD to operate it on the new PC, but it turned out to be plug and play. Happy Day!

The Clik! drive is almost as easy to use as a floppy. I was able to transfer all of the crucial files from the old PC, some of them large, to the new one with little effort. After being so pleased with this drive, I bought a second one, and additional discs. I'm one happy camper!

4-0 out of 5 stars WOW all that I expected
the The Iomega PC card works well with my new laptop. I did have to find another file to install the software included. no prblem just go to Iomega home site for software update. Finally I can transfer my music files from my desk top to my laptop . No docking station needed for music files. Just use the hipzip to load the music on the click disk and transfer to your laptop. Convient quick and easy!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best friend to your Laptop !
This is the single best item that I brought for my Laptop !

This is quality, convenience and easy use all rolled into one product. Then extremely easy to transfer to you PC through a Dock for it.

I would recommend this with the highest marks of satisfaction, I Love It ! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING! DOES NOT WORK WITH SOME ZIP 250 DRIVES
I purchased this cable and also a Zip 250 USB Drive just like the product packaging said. However when I got it home my Zip 250 drive did NOT have the proper connector. I don't know which ones do. So, BEWARE!

5-0 out of 5 stars Can a PCMCIA connection be better than USB?
I've used a Iomega 250 USB zip drive for sometime and recently added the PCMCIA to USB adapter designed for it. It is the best thing I did because as wonderful as USB hot plug capability is, not needing A/C power for the Zip drive is better. This adapter is powered by the laptop, making the Zip 250 USB drive just as portable as the laptop. Even better, the electricity needed to power the Zip drive is minimal and the laptop batteries last almost as long as they did without the Zip 250 drive attached. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 20 GB external drive, yes please!!!
Well, ive owned this particular device for about a month, and i must say, i love it. not only does thing give you 20 additional GB of hard space, but its removable, like a floppy disk. Yeah, no kidding! you simply plug the drive into your computer, via usb, and vwoala!

i like it because i use my computer a lot, and i often have things to store, such as college papers, powerpoint projects, mp3s, games, etc...your average computer usage stuff. And this thing is great, because you (well, me at the moment) dont have to worry about running out of disk space, and if you do?! then press the eject button and insert another cartridge into the little placing unit, and once again, vwoala!.

I must say, before continuing, that youre looking at the price, and youre concerned, what do i have to say to that? well, that was what i did also. I bought the thing, took it home, doubting myself, plugged it in, still doubting myself, started to work with it, and no more doubt. its such a cool addition to your computer that you almost dont want to store anything onto it. haha, its true.

I have it hooked up to my laptop, i use it for school, so it helps me a great deal, it helps keeps my computer fast and fresh. speaking of which, the download and upload of information to and from this unit is unbelieveable. it transfers information as if were an internal drive, there is no cut back on speed, heck, at the bottom of the unit, there is a digital reading of how fast your information is being transfered. Whats more is that i can actually take this unit with me to the university library and plug it into computers over there. It's extremely small, it looks like a giant in the picture but its actually on 4 inches tall, 5 if you out the cartridge in, and about 3.5 inches wide and about an inche thick. man, its really compact, its more compact than my cd-walkman. I definately recommend this piece of hardware, its fast and easy to install, thus far ive had no problems with it, non what-so-ever, and its pretty sleek looking too, i mean, fellas it wont necessarily help with the ladies (my girlfriend almost ripped my head off for buying it) but its definately one of my top purchases of the year. and ive spent a lot of money this year...if youre thinking about getting, but not sure, con a friend into buying it, see how it works, and then come back and order your own, i gaurantee that you will.

if this review helped at all, watch for a couple more that will be coming out, one is regarding the iomega cd-rw external usb hard drive. and one on the xerox M950 printer/scanner/photocopier.

3-0 out of 5 stars Is this being discontinued?
I bought this Peerless backup system and some extra tapes in Dec 2001 from Amazon. I have been satisfied with the product. We use it to back up 5 computers every week. Recently the tape would not eject from the drive. AFter email discussion with Iomega reps, I determined it was not a software problem. I decided to buy an additional unit to use since removing the tape with a paperclip each time is a hassle. It appears this system is being discontinued. You can no longer buy tapes from the maker (Iomega)and the bundles are scarce. I think soon you will not be able to buy them anywhere. I like the system and have bought 2 bundles as backup. If you like this item, better stock up now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding product!
I purchased the Peerless, with 20 Gb storage, for general backup for my business Dell Latitude notebook computer and storage of personal files.

The Peerless installed very easily ... very simple install directions ... and quickly. I was backing my files up within the half hour. Absolutely works just like another drive on my system!

Kinda wishing I had more than one USB interface ... sharing with my digital camera memory card interface, Pocket PC interface and, now, Peerless. Guess I need a docking station now!

Well worth the $$ spent!!

5-0 out of 5 stars the very best!
This is the very best backup product ever. I love it. It works flawlessly and I use it every day. I wish Iomega was not discontinuing it. I will try to buy as many disks for it as I can because I want to use this forever. Also, as I have USB 1 on my computer, the fact that that is was the interface is is great!
Worth every penny. In fact, please DON'T buy it, so that there will be more of them for ME to buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Backup Device Ever!!
This new peerless is easy to install and use, it's speed is fairly fast with USB 1.1 and will no doubt be even faster with USB 2.0 when it becomes widely available. A 7GB back-up of my entire Hard Drive took only 110 min with my USB 1.1 connection. As I understand it; changing to a firewire interface will require only the replacement of the base unit. The receptacle and Disks can be used with any base. I disconnected my tape back-up drives and put them in storage!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Peerless and painless?
With 20 Gigabytes that can fit inside your pocket, Iomega has finally released a product that is in fact without peer.

Unlike Iomega's past products, I didn't even need the manual because of the no-hassle installation. After I backed up nearly 7 gigs without a problem in about an hour and a half, it became clear that of all the back up solutions around, this one is the ultimate. The question is will it become popular enough so that it's not just a back up, but useful as a portable storage device as well. If it does, and if the Peerless can avoid the various problems of past Iomega drives, it may just obviate recordable DVD's in all their annoying formats. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY A SOLUTION FOR SYNCHING
This is the first solution I have found for keeping my office computer, desktop at home, and laptop synched. I simply use the 20 GB drive to serve as my master drive... and I keep Outlook and all my working files on it. Then I back up these files redundantly on the hard drives of my computers... 1-0 out of 5 stars Iomega Doesn't make Reliable Drives
I just got a Peerless drive... worked for 2 hours. Just long enough to suck up a bunch of data... and now it doesn't work. Iomega tech support is pretty clueless since this is a NEW product. (You'd think after going through phone-mail hell to get to the right place, the guys there would have had training or something.) Apparently, after reinstalling, downloading and restarting numerous times and such, the guy at Iomega said the drive was faulty. So how long will the new one the send me work? Who knows. This is the FIFTH Iomega drive I've been through in 6 months. Buy a DVD or CD burner instead. IOMEGA doesn't make reliable technology. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Correction of facts
Another reviewer stated this 20GB Peerless will store about 250 CDs. Assuming the average CD is 650 Megabytes, a 20 Gigabyte drive will only hold the equivelance of 31.5 CDs. However, this is an amazing device because it is solid state: The Peerless actually takes less time for extraction of data than a typical hard drive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Storing and Retrieving Digital Photos -- Instantly
As I became more involved in digital photography, I soon realized that I wanted a faster and easier method for storing and retrieving my images -- than saving them on CD's. I've found the Iomega Peerless accessory disk drive to be perfect for my needs.

With the Iomega Peerless connected to my Sony Vaio computer via Firewire, I can save and retrieve my photos almost instantly. And since one 20 GB accessory disk holds the equivalent of about 250 CD's, I now use the Iomega Peerless to save all (yes, all) of my digital photos.

This instant access makes the creation of digital photo albums -- or the assembly of digital slide shows -- a breeze. And when I'm (electronically) retouching my photos, I can now save as many of the (in-process) versions as I'd like -- without fear of maxing out my computer's memory.

Installing the Iomega Peerless (and the software) was a snap -- and infinitely easier than replacing my computer's hard drive. And the Peerless appears in my computer's menu as just another memory device -- always ready for use.

Before I discovered digital photos (and digital music), I never imagined (in a million years) that I would ever fill up my computer's hard drive. But that's exactly what I did.

The Iomega Peerless is the perfect storage solution if you're seriously into digital photography, digital music -- or worse, digital video! I highly recommend it! ... Read more
