5-0 out of 5 stars Attention Pros: Huge Bang-for-the-Buck!
As a professional pianist/organist for nearly a half-century, I can tell you this: Casio has floored me with this keyboard! One usually associates the name "Casio" with entry-level toys. Not so the Privia series; these 'boards are the real deal. While all the available sounds are more than acceptable, the acoustic pianos are particularly fine. But the real stunners are the electric pianos; from the "60's" Wurlitzer-like patch to an authentic Rhodes and a very serviceable Yamaha DX/TX "digital" piano, I could scarcely believe my ears -- especially at this price!Loads of extras come with the Privia (especially the 400R), including usable effects and a decent split/layer setup. So far, the only downside (for me, anyway) is the number of steps necessary to convert the 'board to an external controller (I regularly use the piano to control the lower manual of a full Hammond setup); it would be nice to be able to set up a patch that could be accessed via one or two buttons, similar to a Roland, Kurweil or Yamaha piano/controller.

With the holidays fast approaching, the Privia is going to get a real workout. This is the true test of a keyboard -- how it holds up to all that schlepping ("The road is a hard mistress!").Guess we'll have to wait and see... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but not designed for EX-Z series
Unlike what the Editorial Review states, this item does not work with Exilim EX-Z3/Z4/Z4U digital cameras unless you want to squeeze your camera in!

While the manufacturer description does not list EX-Z items as compatible, I based my decision to buy this item with the new EX-Z4 on the Editorial Review ... I was wrong!

On the other hand, this item is very elegant and well designed for other Exilim models from S1 to S3 including M1 & M2. ... Read more

Juice Your Casio Keyboard
Why waste money on batteries? That there would be crazy.

Get this handy little item and play forever.

Just make sure you get the right adapter for the right keyboard.

Duh...

Works great for me
I got a Casio keyboard for xmas, and, considering it's size and quality, I was a little disapponted that it didn't come with a power supply (integrated or external (integrated would've been better)) but the next day I went to Toys R Us and bought this little gem and now all is fine.

Wrong Adaptor
I, like the other customers. ordered this adaptor based on the recommendation from the site, and was disappointed when, on Christmas Eve, I realized this was not right for the keyboard we had ordered. This situation was particularly misleading since the adaptor was practically "bundled" for sale with a product for which it is not compatible.

Wrong Adapter
We bought also the keybord and the adapter (as recommended) and it does not fit. I already tried to buy a new one, but it is not available.

Wrong Adapter
We ordered the Casio keyboard for our son Marcelo, and on X-Mas day we realize that the adapter recommended for this keyboard at hte site does not works for this specific keyboard. Now I have to use batteries, and do not know where can I buy the right adapter. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

After pulling the Casio LD-50 out of the box, we were first impressed by the sleekness of design. The shape is reminiscent of a Flying V guitar. There are red rings around each of the four drum pads that, in synchro mode, light up when you hit a pad. In lesson mode the pad lights up to guide you in learning to play. Casio's Lighting Guide System can be turned off and also has a dual-light play mode that combines lesson and synchro modes.

Casio has built into the LD-50 four sound-effects pads that can be changed to one of five different modes. The sound effects go from fun animal sounds to serious sci-fi and beat sounds. The LD-50 has 50 preset rhythms ranging from rock to jazz. These rhythms can be used for accompaniment as well as for interactive tutorials in lesson mode. You can assign each pad with one of 47 preset sounds. Casio has done some of the work for you and preselected nine different drum kits you can choose from to better suit your style of play.

We were quickly able to access all of the functions, and the clear layout of the display made it easy to know what mode we were in. However, while going through all the features we felt the dial operation was a little awkward and sometimes it took two hands to scroll through the menus. The only mode that was hard to find was the touch response mode. The touch response feature allows you to change the sensitivity of the pads so that it takes a harder or softer strike to trigger it. After a quick consultation of the informative user's manual we were able to customize the LD-50 within minutes.

This set is great for beginners and students. The synchro/start function allows you to trigger the beginning of a preset rhythm and tempo simply by starting to play. This limits stuttering starts and eliminates the user from having to wait for a good time to jump into the rhythm. The student or beginner will find that the LD-50 is lightweight and portable. It takes up very little room on the desk or tabletop. It has a built-in speaker with a maximum volume that is suitable for household use, but if you need extreme privacy you can plug in headphones. The LD-50 uses six AA batteries or an AD-5 AC adapter for power. The power adapter is not included.

Casio's LD-50 has enough customizing features to make it a very flexible instrument. We spent a lot of time exploring the different rhythms and sounds. The LD-50 would be a good learning tool for any aspiring percussionist or a great addition for anyone looking to keep skills sharp. --Brian Vandiver

  • Lightweight and portable
  • Loaded with rhythms and sounds
  • Includes drumsticks

3-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for.
I picked up an LD-50 at the local music store for $50. I don't think anyone would buy this expecting digitally sampled drum kits. But for $50 you can bang around and have a lot of fun. I have no sense of rhythm and 10 minutes on this thing has tightened up my timing considerably.

Mine came without a manual. The Amazon reviewer mentioned how hard it was to find the touch sensitivity setting until he checked the manual....I sure wish he told us all how to access the sensitivity setting.

IF ANYONE HAS ONE OF THESE AND CAN TELL ME HOW TO CHANGE THE SENSITIVITY LEVEL I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!

Please e-mail the info to me at:

(delete all the spaces between the letters)

I have to agree with Lori... Casio support is nearly non-existant. No way to e-mail them. Though they advertise having online manuals they do not have the LD-50 manual online. Call them and be prepared to wait on hold forever.

Come on Casio...you guys were once the leaders in low cost consumer electronics...how about some customer support?

3-0 out of 5 stars Customer service skips a beat
The LD-50 is a great product . . . but the customer service from Casio just doesn't keep the beat. When using the web for technical support, the page on the company site simply says "page not found." When calling for customer service using a number found on the site, the caller calls one number, then is instructed by a non-native English speaker to call a second number, and then instructed to call a repair facility in New Jersey. When calling that number, if the phone queue is full, no matter the time of day, the caller will just be disconnected. So be careful: the purchaser will have difficulty obtaining any kind of information on his or her product. So this buyer recommends a purchase of an inexpensive instrument that can be repaired through a local music store where you and your music keep time. Don't mess with this company's so-called customer service. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Help for Cathy
These cables require you to switch the output end of the cord to the input port on your keyboard, and vice versa. The next thing you need to do is go into \Control Panel\Sounds and Audio Devices. Choose the Audio tab, and you will see a box called MIDI music playback(assuming your running windows OS). For the default device, choose 'MPU-401' from the drop down and choose 'apply' then 'ok'. Set the keyboard gm mode to 'on', and play any MIDI through media player or real one player. Your MIDI file should play through the speakers on the keyboard. Your son will have to switch the navigation channel to pick up the different ranges of the song. Hope this helps. I got this info from Casio.

4-0 out of 5 stars casio key board LK-43
Can any one help me with this nice keyboard my son loves the key board. I could not get him away from it in the toys-r-us store . 10 year old boy with lots more toys to see and buy all he wanted for chrismas was this key board. We got him the key board . But the song at the store was not on the key board when we took it home . The song was from the movie titanic. Please tell me how to us this keyboard and down load from my computer so my son can learn the song he longs to play? Thank you Kathy

3-0 out of 5 stars BE WARNED -- may not work
Neither this listing nor Casio's web site mention if this cable includes an opto-isolator. Without it, you could have problems communicating between MIDI gear and your PC.

Look around for MIDI-to-PC cables that have an opto-isolator. They aren't any more expensive, and they could save you a lot of time and headache. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST PROTECTION FOR MY CASIO WK-1630 KEYBOARD
I received my Casio 76CASE Keyboard Carry Case, the very same day, I received my Casio WK-1630 Electronic Keyboard. And, found that this case was the very best investment in protecting my keyboard. It has more then enough padding to protect the keys, buttons and surface of my keyboard. Strong full zippers to seal out dust and dirt. And, large amounts of pocket space for adapters, control pedals, headphones and can even hold music books with room to spare. A long adjustable shoulder strap makes carrying a bit easier. If you plan to take good care of your keyboard, then this case is a must have. ... Read more
