3-0 out of 5 stars Test memory ASAP
This performed as wonderfully as other reviewers describe -- until I came close to filling it. Then it would not format via camera or computers. Of course, this occurred a week out of warranty. Lesson: I shall now exercise every bit of memory as soon as I receive it -- fill it fast or slow with data. That applies to all sizes and speeds of course.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!! THIS THING IS AWESOME!!
I just bought this thing from Amazon and all I can say

is WOW!!!!

This is probably the best purchase I have ever made.

This thing is everything I ever expected and more!! It's

very easy to use as well!

I have bought other brands before, and this one just

blows everything else out of the water! I have to say,

everyone out there who is thinking of buying this, stop

thinking. I bought it and I am extremely happy with it

the moment I powered this thing on. YOU ABSOLUTELY

POSITIVELY CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THIS PURCHASE! I

GUARANTEE IT!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Performance is worth the price premium.
I just received a SanDisk 512MB Ultra II Secure Digital card and did a quick & dirty performance comparison with the non-ultra SanDisk SD card. If you just want the results, then go to the bottom of the review. For the more inquisitive, here is my test configuration:

linux-2.4.22 (with ehci to enable usb2.0) connected to . . .
usb2.0 hub connected to . . .
SanDisk SDDR-88 usb2.0 memory card reader

commands for the write test:
- mount -o noatime,sync /dev/sda1 /flash_memory
- cat testfile > /dev/null
- time cp tesfile /flash_memory

The first command forces any writes to the flash_memory to happen immediately, so there is no caching going on. The second command reads through the ~50MB testfile and caches it into memory (no need to access the hard disk). The third command actually copies the test file to the memory card and times it.

commands for the read test:
- umount /flash_memory
- mount -o noatime,sync /dev/sda1 /flash_memory
- time cp /flash_memory/testfile /dev/null

The first command unmounts the flash memory and clears the cache. The second command mounts the flash memory so the computer can access its files. The third command actually copies the file, which must be read directly from the card because we cleared the cache, and times the copy.

The read and writes tests were performed multiple times, and the results varied little between iterations. The 512MB card was completely empty, and the 256MB card had a small 3MB file.

The SanDisk Ultra II card turned in some impressive numbers:
writes: 4.95MB/sec (5048.2KB/sec)
reads: 8.19MB/sec (8389.96KB/sec)

For comparison, here are the numbers for the SanDisk 256MB non-ultra card:
writes: 0.86MB/sec (876.44KB/sec)
reads: 1.53MB/sec (1570.69KB/sec)

If you need performance, then the SanDisk Ultra II series is the way to go. The Ultra II reads and writes more than five times as fast as the plain-vanilla SanDisk secure digital card. In my case, I will be using the card to store MP3 files for a portable audio device, and waiting around while moving MP3s is not how I want to spend my time. So, I bought the Ultra II. Your needs may vary. Buy accordingly.

Also, I realize that other manufactures market "high-performance" memory cards, but since I don't own one, I can't recommend/jeer them here. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

This advanced graphing calculator is packed with more features than you might know how to use. The TI-89 Titanium lets you perform the expected functions of an advanced model--basic math, algebra, calculus, graphs, matrices, and statistical functions--and do cool stuff like creating animations, graphing 3-D rotations, and plotting contours. Graphing functions include basic function graphing, parametric graphing, polar graphing, sequence graphing, 3-D graphing, and differential-equation graphing. Additionally, the TI-89 Titanium includes symbolic manipulation, constants and measurement units, statistics and data plots, a numeric solver, a text editor, programming capabilities, tables, a split-screen function, variable management, and the ability to link to other calculators or a computer.

The TI-89 Titanium's flash technology allows you to upgrade to future software versions without having to continually invest in new calculators. The 188 KB of RAM, combined with an impressive 2.7 MB of flash memory (three times the memory of the TI-89), are more than sufficient for your stored functions, programs, and data, and add welcome speed to go with the TI's reliability. You can create custom menus or use the default menu. Another cool feature is the Program Editor, which gives you the ability to write custom applications.

The large LCD is adjustable to your environment and can be viewed clearly under a variety of lighting conditions. The calculator also comes with an input/output port and cable, letting you synch up with other TI-89s or TI-92s, as well as a USB port and cable. An attached, hard slide cover protects the calculator from getting knocked around in your backpack. The manual that ships with the TI-89 Titanium is a killer, presenting over 500 pages of clear, concise definitions, function explanations, examples, drawings, and appendices. It's divided into well-organized chapters that cover all the major features of the calculator.

5-0 out of 5 stars The extra $$ is worth it.
I have used many calculators in the past, but the TI-89 Titanium is the best ever. The words are not hard to read at all, as some would believe, and the symbolic manipulations are just like magic. As a student who is stepping into Algebra 2, and preparing to finish up AP Calculus BC, Calculus III, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, and AP statistics, everyone else who has been in my situation has bought a TI-89, or a similar calculator with CAS. This calculator is well worth the $20 more than the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, since interchangeble faceplates don't really appeal to me, and I really need some symbolic manipulation features to help me during Algebra II and all the other courses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Calculator
Before I bought a TI-89 Titanium, I had used a TI-83 Plus for four years. After taking calculus and learning about limits, derivatives, integrals, infinite series, Taylor series, differential equations, and multivariable functions, I decided that I would look for a calculator which was capable of symbolic computation. After analyzing my options, I decided on a TI-89 Titanium. The TI-89 Titanium is able to expand polynomials, factor polynomials, and do all of the calculus techniques that I mentioned -- symbolically and numerically. One of the other things I found helpful was the TI-89 Titanium's ability to plot direction fields using different algorithms (including Euler's method). One of the nicer things about this model (compared to the TI-89) is that it has USB connectivity (cord included) for installing applications and transferring data. Another nice thing is that it also supports connectivity to older model TI-89s via the old I/O port which is right next to the USB connector. I also found the "exact mode" very useful (exact mode will give you exact answers rather than decimal approximations). Yet, the most useful feature of this calculator is probably the "pretty print" feature which displays expressions as you would normally write them on paper. This feature allows you to easily see the expression that you typed in. All these features plus copy and paste ability make this calculator nearly perfect. My only complaint is that the cover does not initially slide on and off easily. However, I'm sure that with more use it will wear in. Overall this is a great calculator -- I recommend it

5-0 out of 5 stars gibberrish
the calc is a good one. you should get it. it will help you in futhering your mathmatic skills. World of Warcraft is a good game. If you like Quake 3, you can get it for this calc.

4-0 out of 5 stars Alpha, diamond, 2nd key words
The reviews that said those words are hard to read are wrong. Yeah, sure I think the 2nd keys are hard to read in low light, but the others are pretty easy to read. I bought mine for games.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Calc
I have heard a common complaint of that the second and alpha words are hard to read on the metallic "titanium" color keyboard. I decided to buy one to check it out myself. The silver Alpha and yellow Diamond words are very bright and stand out, and the blue 2nd is completely readable unless in very poor lighting. Compared to the TI-84 Silver, the TI-89 Ti's Diamond and Alpha stand out way more than the green alpha of the TI-84 Silver, though the blue alpha is about the same. The screen is great, not tilted like some of the old TI-89's had it. ... Read more

SanDisk's Cruzer Mini makes data transfer fast and simple. It's hi-speed USB 2.0-certified for data transfers at up to 480 Mbps (also compatible with USB 1.1, at a more modest 12 Mbps). Its 512 MB capacity lets you store important data, pictures, music, and other files on a device little bigger than a few sticks of gum, then readily transfer them to your laptop or desktop. Making an important presentation? Walk into the room with your laser pointer and a Cruzer Mini.

The Cruzer Mini offers higher storage capacity than floppy disks and other removable media, faster transfer rates, and better file security through CruzerLock. CruzerLock encrypts your individual files, keeping them safe and secure from prying eyes. Simply choose a personal password, select the file that you want to encrypt, and let CruzerLock do the rest. (CruzerLock is Windows-only; local administrator privileges required for Windows 2000 and XP.)

For most users, the Cruzer Mini is plug and play, with no drivers required. (A Windows 98SE driver is available online at sandisk.com.) Many USB flash drives obstruct the port adjacent to it, making it difficult or impossible to use two USB devices at once. The ultra-small, ultra-thin Cruzer Mini won't cramp your style--no matter how tight things may get.

Two additional color caps and a removable neckstrap let you personalize the Cruzer Mini to fit your style.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very Convenient, But...
I've had some problems with data becoming corrupted in my 128MB version. Whether this is due to the components found within the flash drive or whether it's being exposed to a strong magnetic field or radiation from sun storms that're doing it is beyond me. But a device like this needs to be ultra reliable to be effective. Mine hasn't given me any problems lately.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't live without it!
I use this Cruzer constantly. It truly makes my files mobile and gives super flexibility. No signs whatsoever of daat corruption.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cruzer Mini Series a Failure
Total corruption in under 20 uses. Tech support wants you to buy their recovery software for $40 which "may or may not" work. I've found bad reviews for this item all over the web, and SanDisk does not address the issues.

There are people that have had a good run with these, but there is a very large unrecoverable failure rate. If you care about your data, do yourself a favor and check out another company for this type of hardware. I've had better luck with Iomega Zip drives, and that's REALLY SAYING SOMETHING. ... Amazon.com Product Description

For most homes and small businesses, space is a consideration when buying office machines, which is exactly why multifunctions like the MultiPass MP390 from Canon are such a popular choice. By combining printing, copying, scanning, and fax functions into one convenient unit, you can save on valuable desktop space, while taking advantage of all the functionality normally provided by four separate peripherals. The MP390 can also print high-quality color photos directly from compatible cameras and memory cards.

With its small, 2-picoliter droplet size, this versatile machine can deliver exceptional print resolutions up to 4,800 x 1,200 in color, resulting in lab-quality photos and crisp, professional prints of graphics and images. Print and copy speeds of up to 18 ppm in black and up to 12 ppm in color ensure that your jobs are done quickly and efficiently, while a 25% to 400% reduction/enlargement feature allows you to produce copies in just the right size. The CCD scanner has a 1,200 x 2,400 dpi optical resolution (9,600 x 9,600 dpi interpolated), which combines with a high 48-bit internal color depth to produce true-to-life scans that are ideal for a wide range of professional applications.

The fax machine is capable of both black and color faxing, and its 33.6 K modem speed results in transmission speeds of up to 3 seconds per page for black and 1 minute per page for color. Up to 40 speed-dial entries can be programmed into the fax memory, allowing you to easily recall frequently dialed numbers, while a 200-page transmission memory means that you never miss an incoming fax, even when you run out of paper.

Thanks to built-in memory card slots and compatibility with Bubble Jet Direct and with PictBridge digital cameras and DV camcorders, the MP390 provides a quick and convenient way to print high-quality borderless photos in popular sizes--from 4 by 6 to 8.5 by 11 inches. A photo index sheet helps you select your photos, set print sizes, and choose the number of copies, all without turning on your computer. Additionally, the included software bundle helps you get the most out of your photos, with tools to reduce red-eye, adjust brightness levels, and more. The 100-sheet input tray can handle plain paper, transparencies, envelopes, and professional-quality photo paper in sizes up to 8.5 by 14 inches. Compatible with Windows operating systems only, the MP390 comes backed with a one-year limited warranty.

What's in the Box
MultiPass MP390 desktop photo printer, MP390 printhead, BCI-24 black ink tank, BCI-24 color ink tank, power cord, setup and documentation kit on CD-ROM, software CD-ROM; USB cable not included ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best for the price.
I searched high and low for a bargain. $400 for a quality all-in-one is just crazy! The MP390 is the best for the price. Great scanning quality, awesome photo prints, and a good all around solid printer. The fax is something to get use to, you have to scan them in, then send them. The machine does it all for you, but if you have a large document to fax, it could be a burden. But let's face it, it's for home use and the "occassional" fax. I can live with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this if you own a system with a VIA motherboard
bought this one for my mom and while it's a nice printer, fax, etc it has one big problem: when i boot up her Shuttle XPC system (latest and greatest BIOS and all that), the system locks up completely due to some incompatibility. I've talked to Shuttle and Canon and they both acknowledge the problem, but have said that they're not going to change anything to fix it. They each suggested that I return the other's product! :)
Anyway, I'm sending the printer back which is too bad, but I'm posting this as a word of caution to prospective owners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Personal Printer
I was looking at HP and Epson multifunction printers and was almost ready to buy when I saw a review for the MP390 at the PC Magazine website. They gave it pretty good ratings, but complained that it doesn't have a sheet feeder for the scanner and the ink tanks are small. For personal use, these are not a problem because my printing and scanning needs are not that high. The output is very good to excellent. This unit has it all (except a picture preview screen), something that the HP and Epson units don't have for the same money. Because of all of the features, there are many buttons and options to confuse you, but the documentation is pretty good. The quick start guide is excellent. My only problem is my computer. I have an older computer and my USB ports are PCI cards. I have a USB 2.0 card, but my computer is not fast enough for that. A Pentium/Celeron 566 MHz or greater is needed. Fortunately, Canon allows the MP390 to work with USB 1.1. Once I put in a USB 1.1 card, the printer installed correctly and it has run smoothly since then.

5-0 out of 5 stars It serves the purposes nicely
1. Phone Printing: I compared it with a Canon I900D on Canon's Phone Plus Grossy papers. The details are indistinguishable. Although, colors from I900D seem more natural and vivid. But we need to be aware of that I9000D is a photo-dedicated machine. It has 6 color cartridges. By itself, MP390 generates superb phone printing quality. Photo Index Sheet helps a lot when you print stuff directly from a camera or a merory card. It is fun as well.

2. Document Printing: It is quite fast, especially in B&W mode. Generally, I don't like the idea of color-printing documents through a ink jet.

3. Scanning: With the included software it scans as good as other hith qulity Canon's scanners. You choose the data density. It can be very close to original stuff when you set it high. I , particularly like the idea you can convert documents to text files. Awesome!

4. Fax: You can have some many different personal settings when you fax. You can also set this machine with your phone or answer machine in many ways. If you don't have a seperate phone line dedicated to fax, then carefully choose the right mode,MP390 will not mess up your incoming phone calls. The Super G3 is supposed to be very fast. I haven't had chance to test it yet.

Overall, this is a good-looking machine with all the purposes you need for SOHO. The document handling is rather slow since there is not document feeder. Almost everything is done on the flat glass. But, hey,for me , it is a personal machine. I can live with that. This machine would be nicer if there was Canon' Think Tank device in it, i.e. individual color cartridges. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
Although not exactly inexpensive, these are definitely worth the cost - nice design and great sound.

5-0 out of 5 stars Astounding design, improved electronics
Many of the opinions of the original Soundsticks apply to these Soundsticks 2--incredible design, good sound, and so on, but these second generation speakers are better in several respects:

Harman/Kardon abandoned the awkward, limiting USB interface of the original model. The Soundsticks 2 use an almost universal connector, the stereo mini-plug, used in almost all computers and portable stereo equipment--CD players and the like. I use mine with my iPod and it's a dynamite combination.

The volume control consists of two touch-sensitive pads on one of the sticks. Touch both simultaneously, and it mutes. Very cool. They kept the blue LED in the subwoofer which glows beautifully in a darkened room.

Bass from the subwoofer is more than adequate, in my opinion, and overall sound is quite good. Setup is incredibly simple.

But most of all, the cool-ness factor of these speakers, especially the subwoofer, is worth the price of admission. You won't want to hide this one under a desk. Everyone stops in their tracks when they see this speaker system. Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Crisp Clear Sound
These speakers give much better sound than my old pair of speakers. They also look much better than just about any multimedia speaker out there. Of course, they cost more too. If you are looking for a good sounding, sharp designed set of speakers and can afford the $150-$200 price, get these. If these cost too much, but you still want something unique looking, try the JBL Creature II speaker set. It ranges $60 - $100.

A few things you cannot tell from the product description:
> These speakers (Soundstick II) are compatible with PCs. The original Soundsticks were only for Apples.
> The casing, though plastic, is very solid. I can't tell how scratch resistant it is though. I have not tried to scratch them yet...
> The subwoofer has a bass adjust knob.
> One of the satellite speakers has a touch volume control.
> The system does not have an on/off button. It designed to stay on all the time. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars ..Warranty is not too sharp.
After purchase though the net, the unit arrived safely and without damage. It was carefully and properly set up and wouldn't work. The image disappeared, audio remained. This is quite frustratingand I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a 3000$ purchase from a well-known manufacturer to work out of the box.

Warranty requirements state that the defective unit must be sent to Sharp not the retailer. This would have cost me another
200$. I was able to take the whole unit to a Sharp-authorized repair shop who diagnosed the problem as a "bad" board that needed replacing. However, I was told I would be responsable for payment for the new board andtheir time - about 900$ total - and I could take up the warranty with Sharp myself. That was two months ago and I am still waiting. I am told that it is back ordered by Sharp Japan.

All in all, the warranty policies are clumsey, expensive to the consumer and there are no parts in the event of a failure. Who wants that?

If I ever get it going, I'll report again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Defective Sound
The LC-32GA5U is a stripped down version of the Sharp 32" line of LCDs with non-swiveling base, non-detachable speakers and non-digitally processed sound (more expensive AQUOS models have these features).SDTV display is very average and doesn't seem to be deinterlaced/up-converted.DVD 480p displays were very good though; I didn't get a chance to hook up to HDTV 720p. My biggest problem was the constant background noise on every input source when sound was turned up to 50% as this is required to get adequate output for most DVDs due to the meager 10 watts/speaker amplifier. The noise went away if Virtual Surround was used, however I didn't like the Virtual Surround effects.I returned this TV.It may be just an odd lemon, but other LCDs maybe a better bang for the buck, or you may want to pay up for the higher models of the AQUOS line.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Picture with HD or Progressive Scan DVD Content
First, keep in mind that when ordering a TV from Amazon, once you sign the shipping paperwork, you own the TV and have to depend on the Sharp warranty.Amazon does not accept returns on TV's larger than 27" (the only items that have this policy).I decided that it was worth the risk for me, but others may not.

A few details regarding this particular model:
This is the same screen as the other Sharp 32" LCD TV's, such as the LC-32GD4U and LC-32G4U, with the following exceptions. For those of you wishing to hang this on the wall, the speakers on this unit are not detachable, no HD tuner as in the GD4U, and the unit is thicker than the others by about 1.25" because the other sets have an external box for all of the A/V connections (component, DVI, HDMI, etc.).Sharp seems to be catering toward those of us planning to use this more as a traditional TV, with the stand attached. However, the exception which I cared most about was the price, which was significantly lower than the other 32" Sharp or Sony LCD models, especially with the rebate currently offered by Sharp.

As with most of the new HDTVs, this set delivers an amazing picture with either HD or DVD content, mediocre to poor with SD pictures.Fortunely, HD ownership is increasing rapidly (expected to double this year) and with it HD content. The main reasons to select LCD technologies are the lower power usage (1/2 of plasma), longevity (2x the life of plasma), and improved color/brightness.Also, if you live at high elevation (I'm moving to Fort Collins, CO and property at 8000') then plasma has an irritating buzzing that will not only wear out your nerves butyour set as well.

The knocks against LCD are that the blacks are not as black, decreased viewing angle, dead pixels, and the various size/cost complaints.Since I was not looking for any bigger than 32", LCD or CRT were the only choices, and I perferred the LCD picture quality due to the reduced eye strain (no flicker or scanning as with CRT).If comparing at Best Buy, Ciruit City, or the other retailers, yes, the black level on the LCD is not as good, but distinguishing dark detail at home has not been a problem, and is much better than my 10 year old Sony CRT.As for viewing angle, I cannot tell any difference between plasma and LCD even at 85 degrees, though I don't know anyone who really enjoys watching TV at such extreme angles. The dead pixel issue was a major concern at first, but with as small as the pixel size is for HD TV's, I can't even see the two on my TV from more than 2 or 3 feet away; besides, plasma displays can have similar problems. All in all, an excellent TV, especially for movie and sports lovers such as myself. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Works great, easy to use, a few minor complaints
This camera replaced Canon's ZR85, which was another lightweight, no-frills camera. This one is even lighter, and a fair bit smaller. It fits just right in the palm of my hand.If it was any smaller or lighter it would be awkward -- I like there to be a little bit of weight to a camera, since that gives it a litle bit of stability due to inertia; as it is it is just right.

It has more functions than you'd really want in such a camera -- if you are ever going to do something with the footage you will be using a computer and an editing program, so you don't really need the editing modes on the camera. Still, there's no complaint here, and it's flexible enough for most non-professional, home users.

My only complaints are: when they "upgraded" to the ZR200 from the ZR85, they got rid of the neck strap. So this unit is totally free floating and you have to be more careful about dropping it.I suppose you could rig a neck strap but it isn't included and it would be a little more awkward, as it would have to be tied to the hand strap.I really liked the neck strap on my ZR85 as a way of stabilizing the camera: I could put the camera down near my waist, and look through the LCD monitor, and the tension from the neck strap would help me keep the camera steady as I walked, usually while filming my children ahead of me.The other complaint is that the viewfinder on this one no longer swivels up and down, but is fixed in place. This makes it much less usable for me -- because it means that the camera has to swivel with your head if you are using the viewfinder. It means that I use the LCD screen much more often than I used to, and that runs the battery down much more quickly.Still, for simplicity and convenience and ease of use, you'd be hard pressed to find a better camera at this price. ... 194. Toshiba RD-XS52 DVD Player/Recorder with 160 GB Hard Drive and HDMI Interface

Asin: B0002ZRRBI

Manufacturer: Toshiba

Amazon.com Product Description

Taking DVD and home-video entertainment to new heights, the Toshiba RD-XS52 combines a topnotch DVD player with a DVD-R/DVD-RAM optical-media recorder and a hard-disk drive (HDD) with a stunning storage capacity of 160 GB. Whether you're watching the latest DVD movie releases in your home theater, recording your favorite TV programming, or archiving home movies and other videos to long-lasting DVD, the RD-XS52 is your ticket to world-class entertainment. And did we mention that the unit spins your homemade CDs filled with JPEG image files or MP3 and WMA music tracks?

The RD-XS52's HDD lets you store around 135 hours of audio/video programming, ample room for time-shifting your viewing and keeping a fair amount of "must-watch-soon" content at the ready. Imagine the contents of a fleet of 30 VHS tapes, all recorded in 6-hour/EP mode, available at once and with easy navigation, no fast-forwarding or rewinding, and in much higher resolution.

When you have programs you decide you want to keep, just offload them to DVD. Archiving is lickety-split: 24x normal speed when transferring from the HDD to a write-once DVD-R and 12x when burning to DVD-RAM. Time Slip recording/playback lets you begin watching a recording that's already in progress or pause a live recording and return to it later.

The EASY NAVI menu's user-friendly preview screen instantly gives you access to the recorder's key features and can be used to preview and access your content.
The RD-XS52 is also one of the first DVD recorders to offer an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) with upconversion capability from standard 480i resolution to high-definition 720p or 1080i--perfect for viewing your DVDs, camcorder footage, and television programs on a high-definition-equipped TV, now or in the future. HDMI provides a single-cable digital connection for the highest-quality interface between the DVD player and a compatible television, maintaining the digital audio and video signals until they reach the monitor. Other picture enhancements include 3D digital noise reduction (DNR), mosquito DNR, and block DNR.

Front-panel inputs accommodate VCRs and camcorders, including digital camcorders through an IEEE 1394/DV input. The digital-video input even includes controls for your camcorder to simplify the process of selecting and transferring the scenes you want. Other inputs include 3 each of composite- and S-video (1 each on the front panel) and an RF/antenna input on the rear panel.

For DVD recordings, you can create virtual titles on the hard drive--including menus and chapters with thumbnail images--then burn your programming to DVDs with high-quality MPEG-2 encoding (the DVD-Video standard). A convenient library function maintains an inventory of all your recorded content by disc or title so you can sort by date, time, or genre.

The RD-XS52offers broad flexibility, with both a hard drive that holds up to 135 hours of programming and the ability to record to DVD-RAM and DVD-R.
The RD-XS52 offers the flexibility of recording on DVD-RAM--perfect for instant chapter access and for multiple rerecordings--as well as on DVD-R, one of the most widely compatible DVD formats (great for sharing camcorder footage with loved ones). DVD-RAM offers double-sided recording (9.4 GB total storage), and the format is rewriteable, too.

Advanced timer programming lets you use the unit like you would a VCR, specifying a time and channel for recording, and built-in Gemstar VCR+ C3 greatly simplifies this. Significantly, this model gives you the option of recording audio in higher resolution than the MP3-like Dolby Digital 2.0. Choose from 3 separate formats, depending upon your desired quality and available disc space: Dolby Digital 1 (192 kbps), Dolby Digital 2 (384 kbps), and linear PCM (1,546 kbps).

For playback, ColorStream Pro progressive-scan component-video outputs (switchable between 480p and standard 480i) provide great color detail and high purity when connected to compatible televisions. The unit also has standard composite- and S-video outputs, with an RF coaxial output for passing tuner signals to an external device such as a VCR (the RF output does not pass a DVD or HDD signal). Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output (Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.

TheRD-XS52 records to two DVD types:

DVD-RAM
The most flexible of the recordable DVD formats when it comes to recording, editing, and playback. Even more, you can rerecord content approximately 100,000 times.
DVD-R
A write-once format perfect for sharing treasured video moments with virtually anyone who has a DVD-Video player.

What's in the Box
DVD recorder, DVD-RAM,audio/video interconnects, a universal remote control with television control capability, remote batteries, a user's manual, and warranty information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Small in Size not in Functionality
The iPod mini is built from the ground up as a portable device for people with fast-paced lives. It's small and lightweight physical dimensions are perfectly suited to be being placed in a pants or shirt pocket without being a burden.

But don't let its light weight fool you into thinking the iPod mini is a pushover. The 4GB hard drive (3.7 GB actual) can hold about 1,000 songs - enough to last almost three full days. The installed software includes four games; calendar; notepad; contact database; clock; backlight with timer; alarm clock; and the abilities to customize the main menu; create playlists; and rate songs. All this is in addition to being able to be used as an external hard drive.

However, the most revolutionary aspect of the iPod mini (aside from it's size and weight) is its control interface. Incorporating the 'Menu', 'Pause/Play', 'Forward' and 'Back' buttons directly to the touch sensitive scroll wheel not only creates simplicity from a design standpoint, but form a user one as well. Accessing these controls is a breeze. Thankfully the touch wheel is designed well enough that accidental pressing of a control is unlikely to occur since you have to press down a bit to activate the button. I'd actually like to see the entire iPod line adopt this interface.

Some people complain that the iPod mini is only slightly cheaper than the 20 GB iPod and offers a lot less storage space. But what you loose in storage space you gain in portability. It is also important to consider that compared to other players of its size and weight, the iPod mini offers much more storage space, many more features, and a better music jukebox in iTunes 4.0.

I want to carry the most music I can in the smallest possible device that offers the best interface and features. For me, that device is unquestionably the iPod mini. If you have similar demands of a portable music device, the iPod mini is sure to become a permanent accessory to your lifestyle.

I just love it its money well spent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funky Color...great price...
I could care less about the price, I am so typical...I was ready to purchase a 40GB! This product is excellent. When I purchased the green mini iPod, it was 3 days before my mom's birthday. In the house...we have seperate computers, I felt bad that she had to lug around a CD player on her arm, that I bought her a pink mini iPod. She was so so SO excited, she ripped the box open, charged it, then installed the software on her computer...3 weeks later...she still loves it, she jogs, runs, and hikes with it on her arm, one day...she even ran in the house telling me to log onto Target.com (We mostly buy all our electronics, furniture, and stuff like that from Target.com) to write a "divine" review, well...here I am. This product is excellent, fun, and holds about 1,000 songs, she has her 80's playlist, I have my rock playlist. (When buying this item...if you are a early morning/late night jogger, purcase the armband, it'll come in handy)

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fabulous
The sound quality is the best I've ever heard from any piece of audio equipment. That's saying alot since the unit weighs less than the AA battery that powers it. With half a gig of space, this thing stores about 16 hours of CD quality music or 32 hours of radio quality music, in something roughly the size of a lighter. Being flash memory based, it won't skip like a CD player or Ipod. It needs better earphones though and the armstrap, although of high quality, only fits women (I can't even get it over my forearm, let alone my bicep *flex* One thing not mentioned anywhere is the microphone is extremely good. The unit will record about 33 hours of high quality sound, making it perfect for students who like to record lectures (the unit has a mode specifically designed for this). Again, this is amazing, considering the size and cost of the unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best flash player ever bought...
I was willing to pay extra for extra features w/ this player and those extras are worthwhile. What the descriptions and iriver site doesn't tell you that this player has a clock and timer.

Joystick does not look like the picture on Amazon or iRiver's US site. It looks like the iRiver North European site: irivernordic.com You can also get a USB Mass Storage (UMS) firmware from that site but I haven't tried it yet.

Alarm function just plays the last played MP3. The timed radio recordings work great but I don't know how to stop it, yet. Look at the manual from iriver's website and see the features for your self as I'm limited to 1,000 words on this review. Sound quality is great and volume even greater. Can go up to 40 but plays loud enough at 20 setting. EQ settings and 3D settings sound really nice, even on the included headphones. The headphones don't have too much bass so I used different ones. Can also adjust battery display setting for alkaline or rechargeable. I hated how previous players displayed inaccurate battery life because they base it on alkaline batteries.

Line-in and radio recordings sound great because I am able to record up to 320bps compared to others like the Samsung that can only go up to 128bps. Recordings are in *.rec format that the included windows utility can convert. The windows utility shouldn't be taken lightly. You can enter, label,& save all your radio station presets from it to save time. The radio reception is alright but what do you expect from such a small device? PLL? I use my home stereo which gets great reception from a Cable TV adapter and use the line-in recording.

The supplied armband is very well made and looks nice. People w/ humangus muscles or just fat arms can't get it around their arms though.

The only cons I see are:
If hold is not in place it is easy to accidently delete radio station presets and other settings. Once you set it don't forget to lock it as there are many options to change.

Can't copy songs from player to computer w/ the included software since there is no official US UMS support. Their version of DRM? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome, Easy to Navigate, Best Value
Super pleased with purchase- best value, small, sturdy, super easy to navigate- and drag and drop...sound wual is awesome- perfect for gym, comfortable arm band.

Would be cool if they made it with the M port, but it's still cool. Creative labs by far the best brand out there for players.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome and Easy
When this came in the mail I was very excited but worried it would we hard to set-up. But it has really good instructions that make it very easy. The sound is great and I love that you can buy the battary part in other colors too. The sound is really good too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product with some flaws
Background:

This is my first mp3 player. I have played around with my friend's iPOD and iPOD mini before so I have some experience with digital music players.

What I liked:

- Great value: Keep in mind that you are not just buy a 256 MB mp3 player. THe Muvo TX FM is also a USB hard drive, a voice recorder, and a FM radio. This was what made me buy the Muvo despite cheaper, comparable 256 MB mp3 players being on the market.

- Great sound: The Muvo delievers a really nice sound and I find it indistinguishable from an iPOD.

- Great headphones: The included headphones are very good and delivers a good range of sound. As an experiment I tried out a cheap $1.99 headphone and there is just no comparison.

- Good battery life: 14 hr on an AAA battery. More if you listen to the radio a lot.

- Accessories: You also get a protective cover/belt clip and an armband for exercise. The same cannot be said for other mp3 players.

What I didn't like:

- Earphone design: The earphones unfortunately don't fit my ears very well (I have small ears) and the left earphone has a tendency to fall out when I'm moving around.

- Inability to skip to the middle of a song. The Muvo only allows you to play a song from the beginning. There is no provision for to to skip into the middle of the song.

- Case design: The USB part of the Muvo (the black part) is very thick. This means that it can't be plugged into any recessed USB ports. This is not a problem if you have a desktop or a USB hub. Unfortunately, many laptops (including my Sony Vaio) have USB ports recessed into the case with an overhang. This makes it impossible to plug in the Muvo and requires you to buy a USB hub or an extension cable. Before you buy this product, try the following: take a usb cable and grab it with your pinkie flat on top of the plastic connector just behind the metal part. Attempt to insert the cable into an availabe port. If you can do it and not jam your finger, you are fine. Otherwise, you'll need an extension cable or hub.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!
I have been using this mp3 player almost everyday. It works great the battery power lasts longer than what they claim so that's really nice. The controls are easy and the players is really compact. It also works as a hard drive sometimes I use it as one. Only negative comment that I have is when scrolling through FM stations if you accidently hold the scroller longer than 2 or 3 seconds then it will scroll through all the FM radio stations in your area. I strongly recommend people buy this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than getting a pricey, fragile, and huge iPod
Unless you have a lot of songs you just HAVE TO put on a player--it doesn't seem necessary--just get one of these guys, they work great and I've had a Creative Labs mp3 player before and they're sturdy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great dSLR especially for the money
Got this camera after considering between this and the 20D.Was very impressed with the 20D, but the price difference could easily give me a very good lense, and the feature differences are minor, so Rebel XT it is.I am a photography enthuiast who wishes he had the budget for a canon 1D MarkII but instead have the budget of a mortal and have to pay for a personal camera out of his own pocket.
I have been reading some other reviews on this site and other sites regarding digital SLR cameras in general.I had to admit, most of the reviewers really are better served with a point and shoot. This is a SLR camera, it will take great pictures in automatic modes, but if you use your camera in those modes, get something like the Canon Pro1.This camera is to be used in Av, Tv or Manual modes, maybe in Program in a pinch. It requires you to understand WB, depth of fields, exposure metering as well as other wide array of nuances that come with a SLR camera. If you don't want to spend some time to learn some details about photography, you will be better served with a point and shoot. If you decide to use the attached flash for in door portrait shots, you're probably better served with a point and shoot. If you need to frame your shot on the LCD, you're better served with a point and shoot (becasue the whole SLR concept of through the lense view of the scene, DOF checking, focus accuracy is completely lost by that opinion).Yes the sensor on dSLR's will get dirty and require maintenance. Some one mentioned why don't engineer design the sensor to have the opposite charge to rebel dust.Well, dusts don't have one single polarity in their charges, so 50% of the dust will be attracted to the sensor doesn't matter what polarity the sensor is charged with.
Also, this is not a Canon 1Ds either, so it does have its limitations, but then again, people who will feel completely limited by this camera should have gotten a Canon 1D series camera anyway.
The best merit for this camera is foremost image quality. It's extremely low in image noise all the way up to ISO 800.ISO 1600 is completely usable if you stay below 8x10 enlargement and don't mind photoshopping your image a little.Again, if you don't ever want to bother with photoshop adjustment of you pictures, you probably will be better served with a point and shoot. The kit lense is of decent quality again for the price, but you're definitely short changing yourself if that's the only lense you decide for have for this camera. If you want to buy the kit and had no intention to buy another lense, you shoud seriously be considering Canon Pro1, it's got a L glass and a good match between the lense and the body.Buying this camera will be at most 50% of your investment if you truly want to make it worthwhile, the other 50% will be needed for buying good lenses (get the Canon 17-40mm USM L lense, the 70-200 4L zoom, and the 28-135mm as a walk-around, the Tamron 28-74 is an excellent medium range lense as well and is probably a superior substitue for the Canon 28-135 USM).
I would have to say lack of spot metering does give the Nikon D70 an advantage, but this camera does have a center metering mode with exposure lock, so it is not really a show-stopper. Compared to the D70, the Rebel XT has superior noise level performance. This is from my personal experience as well as photos from a wide variety of sites on the net.Low noise level is very important to me, so if this is on your priority list, you really can't go wrong with the Rebel XT at this price point.
What I want to emphasize here is seriously consider your needs before buying this camera, to make this camera truly worth the money you spent, you need to spend a bit more of your money and a lot of more of your time on learning how to properly handle a piece of equipment like this.Otherwise, you guessed it, Canon Pro1 is a very very good candidate.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one awesome camera
I bought from amazon after being let down by Dell. It arrived next day and on the weekend i gave it a good workout at a local airshow. I took just under 1000 photos and was amazed by how well the shots came out in sport mode. Very quick focus and spot on.
excellent camera and well built , not small as some people have noted, works for me...

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
What an amazing small compact SLR camera! I originally purchased the 20D but I found it a bit too big for my taste. The Digital Rebel XT is small and compact and perfect for my wife and I. Although small, the battery can easily shoot 230 shots in a single charge (20% using flash).

I highly recommend this camera it's perfect for amateur photographers. This is an excellent upgrade from my previous Canon G2. If you are new to photography I would recommend the G6 before this camera. But the best nest step would be this one.

Also, with the $700 dollars that I saved getting this instead of the 20D, I purchased a new Canon 17-85mm EF-S lens. What an AMZING lens!

Hope that this help!

5-0 out of 5 stars Top Notch digital
I bought this camera as soon as it was available on Amazon, and have had it for about a month now.The experience has been fantastic. The pictures are nothing less than stunning.Colors are great, resolution is amazing, and the software package is very complete and easy to use.

Probably the best features are the number of modes that are available, and the ease of use.It can be set to a full program mode, and used as a point and click snapshot camera by anyone at all, or put into full manual mode for the more experienced.

I do have a couple of suggestions.Order this body without the Canon lens.I upgraded to a Sigma 28-300 mm Macro Zoom for about the cost of the original lens, and now have one lens for virtually any situation.

Also, get top notch compact flash card.I bought high speed, 1 GB Lexar 80x flash because I really wanted the ability to take high speed repetative pictures.I was not disappointed. You can either take one picture after another about as fast as you can hit the sutter, or put the camera into repeat-shot mode and hold the shutter button down. This is a great feature.

Also order a spare battery or two.It takes a lot of pictures on a single charge, but seems to go from a full battery indication down to dead real fast, so there's not a lot of warning that you need to charge up.

All in all, a very outstanding bit of technology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon Kiss Digital N (Digital Rebel XT)
I'm stationed overseas so most companies won't let me buy cool electronics like the Digital Rebel XT so I went out on the Japanese economy. This is my first digital SLR.I've struggled trying to capture great shots of my daughters playing soccer, basketball, running track..etc., with the "enthusiast" zoom cameras. The Kiss Digital N is made in Japan and has a few minor differences from the U.S. model. The kit zoom 18-55 lens for instance is USM.I bought it as a kit with another Canon lens as well, a 55-200 EF. It's light, cheap, and good enough as I'll get to in a minute. In the end it was between the Pentax istDS or the Digital Rebel XT.After completing all of my research on-line it came down to Canon picture quality, and technology.Am I happy? So far this camera is light years ahead of any digital that I've owned. It's fast, the pictures are sharp if you understand the limitations of the lens you are using, and it's easy.My wife can use it just fine and she doesn't have a digital clue. For the enthusiast, there is plenty of stuff to play with. The 8 megapixel CMOS sensor produces amazing results. The soccer pics tell the story for me.The 55-200 EF produced some incredible shots. It's USM and focuses fast and sharp. It's not an "L" lens but I don't even know what that means! This camera will sell like crazy.Eventually I plan on buying a 35mm EF prime F2.0 lens, the wireless remote, the battery grip, and Canon Flash. Highly recommended. ... Read more

199. Samsung HLP5063W 50" Widescreen HD-Ready DLP Television

Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung's HL-P5063W displays 50 inches of inviting widescreen viewing, elegantly framed in an ultra-light, thin-bezel cabinet. Weighing under 78 pounds and standing less than 15 inches deep, the high-definition-ready HL-P5063W offers more screen and less bulk. But it offers more than just quantity of screen: it's also engineered for quality.

The secret to this DLP (Digital Light Processing) projection set's quality is its Emmy-winning technology from Texas Instruments. Samsung has combined its proprietary Cinema Smooth Gen 3 HD light engine and advanced optic enhancements with a single, postage-stamp-sized Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) capable of generating high-definition video images with film-like resolution, deep blacks, and robust colors. Samsung's Cinema Smooth light engine enhances brightness while ensuring an incredible 1,500:1 contrast ratio.

Texas Instruments' DMD panel is immune to the factors that can cause other displays to deteriorate with use, imparting a longer life expectancy than that of cathode ray tube (CRT) sets, plasma display panels, and liquid crystal display systems (LCD, LCoS, HTPS).

A host of advanced digital interfaces and video inputs make non-issues of connectivity challenges and future proofing. Hang it, mount it, rest it on a stand, or move it just about anywhere, anytime. The screen's surface is nearly 100 percent reflective, and its lightning-quick switching speeds make it twice as fast as earlier designs and nearly 1,000 times faster than competing micro-display technologies.

The HL-P5063W's automatic digital-format conversion system converts any input (whether DTV, analog TV, or XGA computer sources at 1080i, 720p, 480p, or 480i) to a progressive, 16:9 widescreen image with a 1,280 x 720 pixel count. A 3D Y/C digital comb filter dramatically reduces image-edge artifacts while improving transition detail, and the set's HD ultra-fine-pitch (.155 mm) screen further clarifies images, especially when you're viewing high-resolution sources like DVD and HDTV.

Samsung's Cinema Smooth Film Mode 3:2 Pull Down correction circuitry addresses digital distortion in 480i (interlaced) video signals generated from 24 frames-per-second film.

Finally, Samsung DNIe video enhancer (Digital Natural Image engine) works with all analog NTSC and wideband video signals for improvements in contrast, white level, and picture detail, incorporating digital noise reduction to improve lower-quality sources.

The set offers digital-video inputs in 2 formats. A DVI-HDTV interface with HDCP copy protection permits all-digital rendering of video without the losses associated with an analog interface, and an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) jack channels both digital audio and video to simplify connections with newer DTV set-top boxes and DVD players by reducing hookups to just a single cable and plug.

Other inputs include dual HDTV component-video inputs (480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i) for high-definition satellite receivers, HDTV tuners, and HD cable boxes with component video outputs (Y, Pb, Pr); 3 each composite- and S-video inputs; and 2 RF coaxial inputs for antennas or older VCRs or cable boxes. An audio/video output permits hookup with an external device such as a surround-sound receiver.

A 15-watts-per-channel (x2) audio system with a pair of 2-way speakers comes with built-in SRS TruSurround XT, which simulates compelling surround sound through any stereo playback system, including headphones and the TV's speakers.

Last but far from least, onboard 2-tuner PIP with side-by-side split-screen viewimng grants convenient simultaneous viewing of 2 TV programs, while a supplied universal remote control permits control of the TV, a DVD player, a VCR, and a tuner/surround receiver.
